“Times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord.” – Acts 3:20, NLT
Last week, Justin, the girls, and I flew to New York to visit family. In the days leading up to our trip, I couldn’t wait to get out of town. My plan for the trip was to do as little as possible and just r-e-l-a-x.
I had a wonderful vacation. However, looking back over the eight days were were gone, I realize I basically ignored Jesus. Instead of savoring special moments with my Lord, I snubbed Him. My daily Bible reading took a major nosedive, and my prayer time was practically nonexistent. As a result, I came home feeling weak and drained instead of energized and recharged.
The Lord wants to be included in our travel plans. Don’t make the mistake of taking a break from God like I did. Even though it can be a challenge to maintain the spiritual disciplines of Bible study and prayer when on holiday, it can be done.
True refreshment is found in the presence of the Lord and not in a particular vacacation destination. Continue seeking Him, no matter where you are geographically. Spend time with the Lord each day, and you’ll return home, rested and ready to do the good works He has called you to do.
