At the Feet of Jesus

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:41

Today our church starts the Daniel Fast, and I am ready. I need this fast.

Let me clarify. What I really need is the Lord. Life has been crazy the past few months, and I haven’t really been as consistent in my prayer time and Bible reading as I’d like to be. I’ve been distracted, much like our friend, Martha.

Martha was type A all the way. Oh, how I can relate to her! When Jesus came to have a meal at her house, she was more worried more about the preparations that had to be made than enjoying the presence of her Savior. In fact, Martha became angry when her sister, Mary, sat and listened to Jesus teach instead of helping her in the kitchen.

This Daniel Fast is an invitation from the Lord to be released from worry so I can rest in his presence. It’s an opportunity for me to pull away from the busyness of my schedule and focus on what is truly important.

Whether you are starting your fast today or are in the middle of it, be like Mary. Sit at the feet of Jesus as often as you can. Nothing else is more important than being with Him.

I came to your blog today looking for encouragement because I have really been feeling empty and have been turning to food instead of the Lord like I should. This post spoke right to me!! I found your site a few months ago and completed 10 day Daniel fast before my church Women’s Conference in September. My marriage is in crisis and I just feel so empty and alone. God has been tugging on my heart to fast again and draw near to Him….so THANK YOU!!
I need not worry any longer but sit at the feet of Jesus and focus fully on Him!!
    God Bless 🙂

  7. Thank you for your comment. This post speaks to me as well. Sometimes God allows us to feel lonely so that we will recognize that only He can fill us up and satisfy our deepest needs. You will never go wrong drawing near to Him. I’m glad you were encouraged and uplifted by this post. That answers my prayers. May God bless you richly as you seek Him!
