Before your fast begins…

“They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul. They sought God eagerly, and he was found by them.” – 2 Chronicles 15:12, 15

Your 21-day journey with the Lord doesn’t begin on day 1. It actually starts in the days and weeks prior to the first day of the fast. With that in mind, before you jump into a time of prayer and fasting, you should prepare – spiritually and physically – for what God wants to do in your life.

First, pray about your upcoming Daniel Fast. Ask God to make your heart ready for this commitment. As you spend time reading the Word, focus on Scriptures that will build your faith in the Lord. Allow His truth to replace any doubts or fears you may have.

Next, prepare your body by cutting back on the restricted foods. For example, if you’re a big coffee drinker, decrease the amount of caffeine you take in each day. Doing so will help alleviate unpleasant side effects that might occur, such as headaches, when you eliminate caffeine completely. Also, you should increase your water intake. You’ll need more water on the Daniel Fast because of the amount of fiber you will be consuming.

Finally, take time to look over the recipes on the blog and compile a list of your favorites. Plan out your meals and snacks in advance as much as possible. That way, you won’t be tempted to cheat or give in to temptations that will leave you feeling guilty later.

The Daniel Fast is a unique opportunity for you to draw near to the Lord. Don’t wait until the last minute to prepare. Eagerly pursue Him with your whole heart and soul. If you do, you will know the indescribable joy of being found by Him during your fasting experience.
