Day 10 – You just never know…

You just never know what God is going to do as a result of your time of prayer and fasting. I certainly didn’t.

In September 2009, my church, James River Assembly, held a Daniel Fast. A few days before our pastor announced the church-wide fast, I had already planned on doing a 7-day fast myself, and one thing I wanted to pray about was a cookbook I’d written that had never been published. I was honestly fine with whatever God wanted me to do, even if it meant the book would never be in print. I just wanted to know God’s will either way.

Early in the morning on Day One of the Daniel Fast, I started a blog. I never planned for it to be anything more than a journal. However, by the end of that first day, the Lord began to show me what His plans were!

While cooking Marinated Zucchini for dinner that night, I thought, “This would be a great recipe for people doing the Daniel Fast.” My husband suggested that I post recipes for people in our church. The more I thought about the possibilities, the more excited I got. I pulled out the hard copy of my cookbook, dusted it off, and began putting recipes on the blog daily. As I did, God quietly whispered to my heart, “Do you see now? This is why I wanted you to wait. I had something much bigger and better than what you had planned.” And, that’s how the Those Who Hunger blog began. God has taken two things that I love to do – cook and write – and combined them into one unbelievable blessing!

You have no idea the doors that God will open up to you as a result of this fast. Even though you might not see answers to your prayers right now, be assured that those answers will come. The Lord will bring about what He has planned for you in His timing, just as He did for me.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

I am so glad that you chose to wait to see what was in store for you! This site has been super helpful for me during fasting and I am encouraged by your daily devotionals.

  2. Thank you for your encouragement. I’m glad I waited, too! May God continue to bless you as you seek Him during this fast. I’d love to hear your testimony about what God has done in your life as a result of this fast, even if it’s months from now. Sometimes, as it was with me, the answer comes long after the fast is done. Yet, God is never late. His timing is perfect!
