Earlier this week I watched a recent message by Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church entitled “Mary and Martha.” I was riding my bike trainer while watching it, and I had to stop pedaling several times to take notes. It was just that good. One particular point he made really resonated with me, and I can’t get it out of my mind:
“Jesus is our Good Portion. Once you’re done with a meal, it’s over. Once you’ve spent time with Jesus, that gift lasts forever. You’re never the same.”
Jesus came to Martha’s home for a meal, but Martha was so busy, so distracted by all the preparations that she missed the blessing and joy of being with Jesus.
Oh, how I tend to be Martha, but my heart is to be more like Mary! I am often too busy DO-ing rather than just BE-ing with Him.
Let’s not get caught up in the food portion of this fast that we miss those special moments with the Lord. His Presence changes us. Time with Him is never wasted.
