“Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming,” – Joel 2:1
Most days I don’t give enough thought to Jesus’ second coming. I’m much too caught up in this life. My mind is not set on things above – eternal matters – but on earthly concerns, things that don’t really matter. Lately, though, I’ve been burdened to pray for family and friends who don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus.
The Bible says God “wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). In fact, that’s exactly why Jesus hasn’t appeared yet. God, in His great kindness and mercy, is giving people more time to receive salvation so they don’t spend eternity separated from His love.
Although Joel 2:1 was written many years ago to the people of Judah, it’s a sober warning for us today. We need to awaken from our spiritual slumber and sound the alarm to a lost and dying world before it’s too late! The Lord Jesus Christ is returning, and when He does, it will be a dreadful time for those who do not know Him.
Who in your life is headed down the road to destruction? Who needs to be rescued from the kingdom of darkness and brought into God’s glorious kingdom? Do not believe the lie that your loved one will never turn to the Lord. Ecclesiastes 9:4a says, “Anyone who is among the living has hope.” Continue to pray. Continue to believe. Continue to praise God for what He’s doing in that person’s life to lead him or her toward repentance.
I encourage you to bring your family and friends before the Lord by name. Jesus is coming again. No one knows the day or the hour. Could be today. Could be tomorrow. It might not happen for several more years. However, we must not allow ourselves to become apathetic in praying for the lost. It’s time to blow the trumpet! It’s time to pray! It’s time to share the good news that Jesus saves!
