Worth the Wait

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13

Last night my husband and I celebrated Valentine’s Day by having dinner at our favorite local restaurant, Ocean Zen, and by going to a movie. When Justin first mentioned seeing Avatar, I honestly had no desire to see it. I’m not usually a sci-fan fan, and the freaky-looking blue people in the commercials scare me. However, since true love often involves sacrifice, I decided to give it a go.

Wow. I’m so glad I did. It was definitely an unforgettable experience. The special effects were incredible. What impressed me the most, though, was thinking about the enormous amount of work that was involved in making it. Years of hard work and perseverance. I’m sure there were times when James Cameron wondered if the project would ever be completed. But, he never gave up. He didn’t lose hope. He had a vision for his film, and he knew that it would be worth the wait. It certainly has been. Avatar was recently declared to be the highest-grossing film of all time in North America.

I’ve been chasing a little dream of my own for the past five years – writing my first book. I’ve faced many setbacks and frustrations along the way. There have been moments in which I thought, “Will it ever really happen?” However, now that my book is moving toward publication, I’m in awe of what God has done and how His plan for me continues to unfold.

The Lord reminded me this week that my hope has always been and will always be in Him. The hope that He offers is not merely wishful thinking or an optimistic feeling. Instead it’s a firm belief in the One who promises to give us exactly what we need for whatever He’s calling us to do.

What dream has God placed in your heart? Be assured that the God of all hope has a definite plan for your life, and He will bring it all together in His perfect timing. As you seek Him and follow His leading, He will fill you with joy and peace. You don’t have to understand everything. Just trust in Him. You’ll be glad you did. His best is worth waiting for.
