January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast – FIGHT!

January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast logo

This past year I’ve struggled more with prayer than during any other time in my life. There have been days I haven’t wanted to pray. And I didn’t. There have also been times when I couldn’t pray because the hurt was so deep.

My heart has been heavy for family members who continue to reject the Lord. Friends whose marriages are falling apart. People who are facing life-threatening illnesses and addictions. And, of course, I’ve been broken over my own sin.

So much devastation. So much despair. And I’m weary.

But God has reminded me that I must not let up. Now isn’t the time to get lazy in prayer. Now is the time to FIGHT!

The struggles we face aren’t random or coincidental. Forces of good and evil are in conflict all around us. A powerful and present enemy, Satan, wants to steal, kill, and destroy God’s work in our lives and in the lives of our loved ones. But God doesn’t want us to shrink back in fear. He wants us to engage! But, in this battle, physical weapons like guns, knives, or hand grenades are useless. We must put on spiritual armor and fight through prayer!

The good news is that we’re not alone. God is fighting FOR us and WITH us. And, the best part is, He won’t be defeated.

“For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory” (Deut. 20:4).

This January you have the opportunity to fight the good fight with thousands of believers around the world. Make plans now to participate in the January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast. The three-week online fast will be held January 3-23, 2016, and the theme, of course, is, “FIGHT!”

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4).

Will you make the commitment to participate in the Daniel Fast this January? Will you fight on your knees in prayer?

(Online registration has closed for this event.)

God has great plans for you in 2016. Seek His face through prayer and fasting, and praise Him now for the victories to come!

  1. Tammy Harden says:

Did the Daniels Fast in 2015 and it was great.. So full of inspiration and guidance.. Cant wait until January 3rd to start this journey again.. =)

    • Tammy, I’m so thankful you’re going to participate again!

    • Count me in and lets battle with prayer!

      • Great! Make sure you get signed up for the fast to receive the weekly emails. I’m so glad you’re fighting the good fight through prayer and fasting!

        • Mona wilson says:

I need your advice cause I don’t wanna miss out on all that God has for me. I’ m fasting with my church but I needa little encouragement . My husband has abstained from meats but, eating donuts and other things in between. Please advice me on this.

          • Hi, Mona! I’m glad you’re doing the Daniel Fast with your church! Do you need advice on how to respond to your husband’s food choices? If that’s the issue, I would recommend NOT letting his decisions be a stumbling block for you. I could see how easy it would be to get angry and resentful toward him. That’s exactly what Satan wants; he wants to divide you. Instead of judging how your husband’s fast is going, focus on YOUR fast. Don’t let the Enemy ruin your Daniel Fast experience by distracting you on this matter. Your husband’s fast is between him and the Lord. Just continue to pray for him and encourage him along the way. I pray God will bless you abundantly as you submit to Him!

  2. Kristy Sullivan says:

Looking forward to it! My 4th year!!

  3. Raquel Deering says:

i can relate. This has been a difficult year after VICTORY in 2014, where many amazing things happened. I was given a van & my prodigal came home. He did not stay however, and now things are at an all time low with him. In the middle of all the mess it can be hard to remember the battle is spiritual. Looking forward to the fast and seeing what God is doing.

    • Raquel, I was reminded this morning of how things tend to “heat up” in our lives when we’re on the brink of a breakthrough. Keep pressing forward in prayer, and God will continue to give you strength for the battle. I’m thankful you’re going to be doing the fast in January!

      • I did the fast many years ago. I was praying and fasting and journaled my thoughts. God spoke clearly to me each day. I had prayed for a healing and for God to use me to spread the gospel. Although, God did not heal me until many years later. Many came to Christ, my husband being one. Because I fasted and prayed and God knew my heart and anointed me like never before. To God be the glory. Looking forward to this one. 2016 is going to be amazing.

        • Thanks for sharing what God did in your life through your time of prayer and fasting. Yes, I believe 2016 is full of opportunities and blessings from the Lord. My heart it full of anticipation as well!

      • carroll edwards says:

This is my third year on this fast.Last year was a spiritual battle with loves ones health issues but I am believing in God’s healing in my husband, mother-n-law and my brother-n-law who has been battling cancer . I am trusting in God in every area of my life with a greater anointing to help my family members.

        • I’m so glad you’re doing the fast again. May the Lord fill you with His wisdom and strength as you seek Him. I pray for divine appointments with your family members and that you will be led by the Spirit in sharing Christ’s love with them.

  5. Ana Cerrato says:

So excited! We have a fasting and prayer group on FB called Pleas and Preparation and we are joining you! I KNOW God gave you this word FIGHT…just this week we took one day to fast based on the book of Joshua…lots of fighting going on in that book. God bless you all! Psalm 34:5 my life verse: “Those that look to HIM are MADE radiant and their FACES are NEVER covered with shame.”

  6. Connie Lyons says:

I would like to sign up for the Daniel Fast Newsletter for year 2016.
    God Bless!

  7. Carmie Castillo says:

Hi there. Everything is possible when we do fast. My husband and I have been in very difficult situations…business bankruptcy…all we been started was been stolen by the enemies. Friends are also destroying us in many ways…and no one now is giving us the chances to stand up again…bank rejecting us…friends avoiding us…but still trusting and HOLDING TO GOD’S PROMISES.

    • Yes, all things are possible with God. Even when it seems as if everything is falling apart, He is our solid Rock. Keep holding fast to His Word and believing what He says. God will never fail you!

  8. I am so excited to join the Ultimate Daniel Fast on January 3rd! I’m ready to FIGHT!

  9. This is my first year and first time hearing about it. I live right next to recent California mass shooting and I need to be in fervent prayer for my area and for so many around me.

    • I’m so glad you’re interested in joining the January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast. Yes, considering all that’s happening in our country (and world), we as believers definitely need to pray. May God comfort your community during this time, especially those who have lost loved ones.

  10. Priya Daniel says:

    Hi Kristen,

I am believer from India. I am going to join your Ultimate Daniel Fast because 2015 is the worst year of mine ever. The entire 2015 has been filled with my tears only. I lost my job from past 6 months, and I am jobless. I used to feel that God is not listening to my prayers. I am not going to get blessed with new job because wherever I attend my interview, it is rejected. I am in relation with a believer and suddenly he told that his parents didn’t got answer about me regarding our marriage and he stopped talking to me. I was rejected. I was going through regarding Daniel fasting and I found your article. It is very interesting, and I wanted to join this fasting to let God restore my job and my relationship with my boyfriend. I hope God will answer me and my boyfriend family as well.

    • Hello! I’m so thankful that God let you to my website. I do understand your feeling of being rejected. But, let me assure you, God will NEVER reject you! One of my favorite chapters in the Bible is Psalm 27. Perhaps these verses will encourage you and give you strength:

      “Hear my voice when I call, O LORD;
be merciful to me and answer me.
My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!’
Your face, Lord, I will seek.
Do not hide your face from me,
      do not turn your servant away in anger;
      you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
      O God my Savior.
Though my father and mother forsake me,
the LORD will receive me” (Ps. 27:7-10).

I’m thankful you are planning on joining the January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast. Have you signed up yet? Just go to at http://www.ultimatedanielfast.com. May God bless you abundantly as you fast and pray!

      • Priya Daniel says:

Thank you so much for encouraging me Kristen. I need a help during the fast what kind of foods do I need to eat because I am Indian we eat rice and curries a lot I need your help on the food to be taken on Daniel fast. what I have to eat on Daniel fasting and can you please let me know can I eat jaggery during the fasting because daily morning I will eat corn flakes or oats for my breakfast with milk and jaggery. Please do help me with the food plan for fasting and once again I thank you so much for this fasting plan. I want to take this fasting as serious and draw myself closely near to God. Surely I will testify what God has done to me during Daniel fasting.

        • Hi, again! I had to Google “jaggery” because I wasn’t sure what it is! Since it’s an added sugar, it is not a part of the Daniel Fast. No added sugars are allowed, which includes honey, maple syrup, agave nectar, brown sugar, etc. I would recommend looking over the Daniel Fast Food List for guidance. Also, browse through some of my recipes to get ideas. As far as rice and curry, that’s fine! You want to have whole grain rice, though, not white. God will certainly honor your desire to draw close to Him on this fast!

          • Priya:
If you like soups, the recipe for the Pumpkin Black Bean Soup and Chunky Potato Soup are two of my favorite soups that are listed on this website. In my perspective, both soups are fairly friendly (simple) to make.

You can find the soup recipe under the “recipe” tab, and select “Daniel Fasts soups.”

            Keep on keepn’ on!

    • Hi Priuya. Stay encouraged and know that God will never leave you or forsake you. Also all things work together for the good for those that love the Lord. You are loved and Satan is a liar. I declare that 2016 will be the best year of your life, with many more blessed years to come. From your sister in Christ. Love you with the love of the Lord!

  11. Thank you for this encouragement and hope for a better 2016, this past year has been very trying on me and my family. I am looking forwards to getting closer to my God thru this fast and prayer.

  12. buffy blease says:

My family and I did the Daniel’s Fast last year, and while it was the hardest year of my life, we also reaped many benefits by participating in the Daniel’s Fast. First of all, my oldest son who we had been praying would get saved, did!! The greatest blessing of them all!! He also began his first career job as a cop. He had been waiting for this for a long time. Thirdly, he began dating the girl that is to become his wife August of 2016. They are going to do the fast as a couple this year in honor of their first year of marriage.

Secondly, my middle child got an intent to sign contract for college. We are praying during this fast that his ACT test scores will improve so that he can get another scholarship for college.

Thirdly, it was a hard year for me personally because I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I lost my job due to this dreadful disease, but GOD saw fit to bless me with a job that allows for me to work when I am able. I have good and bad days with my health but GOD has taught me to lean on HIS strength on the bad days. More importantly I have drawn closer to CHRIST because I have learned not to depend on myself, not to think that I am so independent that I only need CHRIST when I think I do but to know I need him even when the sun is shinning.

I honestly believe that participating in the Daniel’s Fast sets the course for GREAT things to happen in our year.

    • Praise God! What a wonderful, encouraging testimony! Thanks so much for sharing. God is so faithful. I love what you said at the end, about how seeking the Lord through the Daniel Fast sets the course for the whole year. I totally agree! May the Lord fill you with His power and peace as you continue to serve Him!

    • Buffy thank so much for sharing your testimony of what God can do when you’re obedient. God bless you and your family

  13. Patricia Hawkins says:

God wanted me to have this e-mail you sent me. My church Word Alive is doing a Daniel Fast on Jan 4- 24. I have forwarded this email to my pastor and his wife. I am so excited about this fast. Last year I did the fast and I ordered the book . This year I am going to do the fast with more knowledge and understanding and guidance from God. Thank you so very much for sharing this e-mail with us. God Bless you abundantly.

    • I’m so glad to hear your church is doing a corporate Daniel Fast. Our church’s most recent fast was a few months ago, and we’re still amazed at all God is doing! Thank you for sharing the information with your pastor. I appreciate it!

  14. Thulie Majola says:

What a blessing these fasts are…..I can’t wait to start 2016. I’ve even invited a few if my friends to join in with me..they are so excited and we are already having weekly prayers in preparation.

  15. joining the fight!
    1st time doing the fast.
    im looking forward to it!
    The Lord is my shelter!

  16. 2014 Was a bad year for me, I burned out and did not want to continue with life. I was booked into a clinic where I worked with psychologists and social workers and I realized I need to drastically change my life.

I used to have 2-3 counseling sessions a day where I tried to help others with their problems but I did not realize the toll it was taking on my own life. I stopped counseling and quit the church.

I never stopped my relationship with God but the fire is not burning the coals are just smoldering.

In 2016 I am starting with the Daniel fast and I am joining the fight in order to get the fight back in my own life.

    • I’m so glad you’ll be joining the fast in January. I believe God has something special in store for you as you seek Him. The enemy has stolen enough of your joy and peace! I pray God will overwhelm you with His love as you humble yourself before Him. He knows you’re weary, and He will fight FOR you!

  17. Wow! Another year has past and I so appreciate you Kristen for this opportunity to share in the FIGHT!! Daniel Fast! Myself and the team of women on our tour speak in different churches around the globe from Africa, to Holland, and predominately here in the United States, and the cries of the people are the same, and they are exhausted from the heaviness in there lives. I am standing in agreement with you Kristen that this is not the time to give up and get lazy…this is the time to push through in the spirit! I will be praying for the brother and sister bloggers and for you my dear sister in Christ as we move forward in the spirit for Christ. Remember our circumstances don’t define us, nor does our past…we have been given authority by Christ to stand up, not lay down or walk bent over. I too have had many losses this past year and last, but I can only say that through prayer and fasting He has allowed me to say “but let me tell you what God did with it all.” God bless my sister and I am excited to be taking this journey together again this year. Thank you again for your obedience 🙂 His always

    • Thanks so much for your encouragement! Yes, what you said is so true: “Our circumstances don’t define us, nor does our past.” Praise God! I’m so glad you’re joining the January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast. God is going to move in mighty ways!

  18. Hi Kristen,

I’ve never done a Daniel Fast before and I’m thinking about doing it. However, I’m not sure how I will do on a 21 day fast so do you recommend doing seven days of the Daniel Fast and progressing from there dependent upon how I did?

    Thank you and God Speed!

    • Hi, Joyce! I’m glad to hear you’re interested in doing the Daniel Fast. The length of your fast is certainly up to you, but I recommend “going for it” for the full 21 days. 🙂 God will help you! Plus, you’ll have a whole community of people fasting with you in January, so that helps. But, the decision is yours. Either way, God will honor your desire to know Him more!

      • Thank you Kristen for your response! I was praying about the fast this morning regarding if I should do 7 or 21 days and in my heart the Lord said I should do the whole fast because He will help me 🙂

  19. I have done the Daniel Fast in the pass, because it helped me jump start losing weight. This year I doing it to get my life back on track. I watched the moive ” war room”, and I think I am going into my own war room for many reasons. I am just afraid God will answer the one question I don’t want an answer to.But think this is the step in the right direction. I hope the Daniel Fast will help me.

    • Patsy, I’m glad to hear you’re ready to start 2016 in prayer and fasting. Although I don’t know specifically what it is that you fear, I want to encourage you to trust in the Lord. The Bible says, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love” (1 John 4:18). Another definition for the word “punishment” in this verse is “torment.” The Lord loves you extravagantly, and He knows what is best for your life. As you commit to this fast, let the Lord speak to those fears and fill you with His perfect peace. 🙂

  20. Colette Scheermeyer says:

    Dear Kristen

How amazing that I came across your post last night. The last two weeks I have had a urgency in my spirit that I need to start the year in fasting in prayer. When I read the words FIGHT I knew this was God telling me to put on the armor of God and get on my knees. The enemy is coming against me in many ways but I have also seen God’s faithfulness in 2015 having my second child after two miscarriages.God is so awesome and worthy of all praise in every circumstance in our lives.

I am in South Africa and have signed up and am excited to encourage my sister and a friend to join as they too are have been facing major battles in their lives.

    God bless you

    • Hi, Colette! Thank you for sharing how God is working in your life. I’m so thankful you’ll be joining the fast. May the Lord strengthen you and guide you as you pray!

  21. Jessica Winters says:

My husband and I are participating for the first time this year…I feel like I have been to 1000 different websites to try and find recipes, and do’s and don’ts. I am anxious to see what God has in store for our lives in this coming year, and I feel like this small sacrifice is going to be a step we need to bring us closer to God. I have been told that time is the biggest enemy of Faith, so this year I am going to embrace the process by saying NO to myself, and YES to God. I am hopeful that this FIGHT will help me be the me God intended me to be.

    • Hi, Jessica! I’m so glad to hear you and your husband are doing the Daniel Fast together. It certainly does make it easier when a couple joins together in the FIGHT. May the Lord strengthen you both with His mighty power as you trust in Him!

  22. Ginger Brandstrom says:

Thank you for the reminder about fasting this time of year. My husband and I like to do it together. I’m out here in Ventura, Ca…and your friend Nicole E told me about your book. I chose a different book last year, but have had my eye on yours all year. It’s time!! God has blessed us all year, and I opted out of Christmas gifts this year to pray for the health and wellness of my friends and family that struggle. Looking forward to taking it to the next level with the Daniel Fast, and seeing how God will use me. I will sign up!

    • Hi, Ginger! You know Nicole? That’s so neat! I’m so glad you wrote and that you will be joining the fast. May God bless you and your husband abundantly as you seek Him in 2016!

  23. Andrea Fields says:

    I’m in.

  24. I am so excited about doing it again this year. Last year was my first time doing it, and I will try it again this year. To God be the Glory.

  25. Hi, Kristen! I’ve been healthy before but got off track. I’m getting married in 5 months and I hope this gets me back on the right track to feeling and looking like I want to.

    • First of all, congratulations! How exciting! Eating healthy is always a good choice, especially right now. 🙂 May the Lord give you His strength during this fast. I pray He blesses your desire to take better care of your body.

  26. This is so exciting to be able to be a part of this for 2016. Our church, and in particular, our Women’s Ministry, will be committing to the Daniel Fast for the month of January. We are seeking the Lord with all that is within us as we pray for our church, our families, our communities, and the world.

    • Amen! I’m so thankful you and the ladies of your church are committing these first few weeks of the year to prayer and fasting. May God fill you with His power and peace as you fight the good fight in Jesus’ name!

  27. I was chatting with a friend and she suggested we do a Daniel fast 2 days a week. That suggestion led me to Google which led me to you. I have spent a good part of this morning reading through your website, I have now signed up for the January fast and your weekly newsletter, I will do the fas for the whole month. 2015 has been a bad year for my Christian life, I have lost the zeal and fire I had for the Word, I find it hard to pray or go to church. I want to go back to being a Jesus girl.

    • Wonderful! I’m so thankful the Lord led you to my website! God will certainly honor your desire to draw closer to Him. And I’m proud of you for stepping out in faith and committing to the 21-day fast. Maybe your friend will do it with you. 🙂 May the Lord overwhelm you with His love as you seek Him in 2016.

  28. I was looking for Daniel fast recipes and came across this website. First timw doing this fast. My prayer is for God to release me from sugar cravings thru this fast. It really hurts my health and have failed to stop before. Will sign up. We already have a prayer prog with my worldwide church from 6th Jan so this will be perfect. Thanks so much

    • I’m so glad you’re joining the fast. May the Lord give you victory as you trust in Him for self-control. Yes, get signed up ASAP for extra encouragement and support!

  29. I was looking into the Daniel Fast last year when i ended up here and have to say it was the best place out of countless ones i had searched. I am in Norway and desperately need to do the fast. Last year went ok until the last few days when i “fell”. I however did not stop the fast but i still felt likes cheat. God honoured that fast and 2015 was still a great year for me. He guided me into patching up a relationship with my mother in law for the first time since i got married,,7 pluss years later..what victory. My in law has not changed, it was me God changed and the stuff that used to bother me were no longer of importance. He is so faithful. We were also blessed with my parents visiting us from Africa for their very first time out of my homeland and even though that trip had it’s challenges including my mother in law acting and behaving weirdly. God was still in control. However,my fire is all burned out. I go to church every sunday, but midweek and any other prayer meetings feel like a drag. Reading the word has become excruciating. I rarely touch my bible and am always thinking i don’t measure up to all these tongue speaking brothers and sisters of mine. My husband is not a believer but he is the loveliest man alive..

I want to FIGHT. For my husband’s Salvation. My family and the chaos that is them. My in laws. The whole clan does not believe in God except my baby girl..God is in control. I want to witness more about Christ like the good old days. Thank you so much for the website and i will be joining in the 2016 fast,to FIGHT.

    • Christy, thanks for sharing your heart and for being honest. I believe this fast is going to be full of victory for you and for your family because time spent in prayer is never wasted! I’m glad you’re ready to FIGHT! May the Lord fill you with His power and peace as you do!

  30. Just signed up for the Daniel fast 2016. God is good.

  31. Christy Ballinger says:

    Hello Kristin,

I just “stumbled” upon your website as I was researching for information on fasting. I’ve participated in a Daniel fast a couple of times and it was many years ago. What really got me was the first few sentences when you started with “This past year I’ve struggled more with prayer than during any other time in my life.” It is as if you are speaking directly at me as I too have had the exact same struggles. Thank you for your encouragement, writings, recipes, etc. I am going to take a stand with you and have already started my grocery list! Here’s to greater things in 2016, I am done with the status quo!! Blessings, Christy Ballinger

    • Hi, Christy! Thanks so much for your comments. I’m so glad to hear you’re joining the January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast! Are you all signed up so you can receive the weekly emails? I pray God will create a new passion for prayer in your heart during the fast and take you to a deeper level in intercession. May He fill you with His power and bless you abundantly in 2016!

  32. So grateful for your passion for prayer and fasting. God has done a mighty work in my life the last 5 years I have practiced this. He has given me a passion for it as well and I love sharing it with others. Thank you for your book, blogs and devotional you send daily. You are such an encouragement to me. Praying God does a new work for you in this fast and New Year!

    • Melissa, your comments encouraged me so much. That’s my prayer as well – that God will take me to a deeper level in prayer this year. I really want to learn how to pray as Jesus did. He was always praying, you know? Thank you for your prayers. May God overwhelm you with His goodness on this Daniel Fast and in 2016!

  33. I am doing this fast 1st to draw closer to God. I am also asking God for healing for our Aunt Patsy from cancer. I believe that healing is coming. I did it 2 years ago and saw the hand of God do wonders and he is still doing amazing things in my life in spite of my struggles. I’m trusting that I will recover everything that was taken from me.

    • God will certainly honor your desire to draw closer to Him through prayer and fasting. And I love that another big focus of your fast is to intercede for your aunt! As you devote yourself to prayer during this Daniel Fast, may you be strengthened in every way. I pray God will pour out His favor on your life and fill you with much joy in 2016!

  34. I am so excited and I am looking for God to move on the behalf of all the lives here, He will honor the obedience and the true desire to seek His Face … to deny self to get closer to HIM !!!

  35. Hi there!

I’ve just registered and I’m doing this fast for the first time. I’m on Day 2 (as I started on 1st Jan).
I have a question: I live in the UK and I buy Quorn food products as a substitute for meat and chicken. It contains mycoprotein as an ingredient. I don’t know if you have something similar in the US, but can I use this for recipes during the Daniel Fast?
    All the best in 2016!

  36. My husband, daughter and I followed this last year and saw God at work. Our daughter is away at college this year, but my husband and I are starting tomorrow. We have many challenges ahead this year, and need clarity on some things, so I can’t wait to see God move in these areas. Thanks for your faithfulness Kristen.

    • That’s great, Kelly! Glad you’re back again. 🙂 God will certainly not fail to guide you as you seek His direction. May the Lord give you and your husband wisdom and pour out His favor into your lives!

  37. I want to join, but it says my email address is on a global do not email list. What can I do to subscribe?
    Mayra.delafuente@hotmail.com or mayraisawesome@gmail.com

  38. “Fight” is the perfect theme for this years’ fast. I’m believing God is going to show up and show off just as He did in my previous Daniel fasts. I am certainly fighting on my knees.

  39. Thank you, Kristen, for your transparency and words of encouragement. I, too, can relate to the “prayer fatigue” that results when your heart is heavy. I participated in the Fast last year and saw God move. I look forward to participating this year, and I’m believing God for breakthroughs for me and my family in Jesus’ name!

  40. Tatiana Garcia says:

I’ve heard of this fast. This will be my first time. I need a change in my life. I need to eliminate harmful addictions in my life. I believe and have faith if I give my all these 21 days God can help me. Regain my life back. Mentally, physically and emotionally. I need to do this jump start to a new year. I don’t want 2015 to ever be repeated.

    • Tatiana, thanks for your comments…and your honesty. I’m grateful we serve a God of new beginnings, aren’t you? I’m believing 2016 will be a year of victory for you! I’m glad you’re joining the fast. It starts tomorrow, but don’t panic! God will help you. Just take one day at a time. Be sure to sign up for the fast, if you haven’t already. And, if you can get my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast, ASAP, you will find it extremely helpful! May God fill you with His power and peace in 2016!

  41. What kind of snacks can be eaten on Daniel Fast ( chips, popcorn, dry cereal, etc)

    • Hi, Chandra! First, make sure you look over my Snacks page. You’ll find many recipes there! If you’re referring to store-bought products, there are a few that are Daniel Fast friendly. Some Larabars are acceptable (read labels carefully to get the ones without chocolate chips or any other restricted ingredients). Baked Tostitos are an option. Also, air-popped or oil popped corn is acceptable. Whole grain products are allowed as well, but I don’t know right off hand what cereals would qualify. Again, the idea of the Daniel Fast is to eat as healthy as possible, so it’s best to limit your store-bought snacks. 🙂

  42. Hi Kristen. I have a question regarding juicees. All fruits are allowed right? Does that mean I can drink orange juice if I extract it directly from the orange? Sorry, silly question I know. Just want to be sure…

    • Hi, Christy. Great question. The recommended beverage on the Daniel Fast is water. You should drink it most of the time. Fruit juices (100%, unsweetened) CAN be used, such to flavor recipes and occasionally as a drink. But I don’t recommend drinking a lot of fruit juice, although having it fresh from an extractor is better and more nutritious than store-bought juice. Water is very important on the fast, so you don’t ever want to compromise your water intake by drinking too much juice. I hope this explanation makes sense!

  43. Linda Williams says:

I am looking forward to the process. Knowing that he will guide us as we seek it. Thank you for the information.

  44. Thelmer S. says:

I just stumbled on your amazing site but am trying to register and it won’t add me. What should I do..started fasting yesterday the 3rd and would love to join in.

    • Hi! I’m not sure if this will work, but see if you have an email in your inbox now (or spam folder). The email should request confirmation for your subscription.

  45. Dear Kristen. Thank you for your lovely response, and I have to agree with you. Water it is then. This whole fast has consumed me in a way that i have never experienced before. It is only day two and i already see wonderful changes in my attitude towards my children. For the first time in ages i managed to have a calm no shouting morning. It feels wonderful. God has put two songs in my heart concerning this fast and i hope you don’t mind me sharing it with your readers. “The power of love by Darlene Zschech” and “All I have is Christ by Sovereign Grace”. The part that gets me every time is “I had no hope, that YOU would own a rebel to YOUR will and if you had not loved me first, i would refuse you still”. I am on our worship team but have always felt i could not measure up. God has already started revealing my refusal to look up to Him,not man for approval and boy have i been convicted..God has called me, many many times, yet i keep refusing Him..oh. But,but, He is still here and waiting with open arms and that is all this fast is about. Getting back or staying closer than before to Our first Love.

Kristen, thank you for this website. I do not ever post anything anymore on line but this place somehow just makes one want to open up. Just as an encouragement to you. God is using you mightily, and He is not yet done. There are more things in store for you and your lovely readers. May His richest blessings consume and overtake you during this special time and right through the end of this year:):)

    • Christy, thank you so much for your comments and encouragement (especially that last paragraph). I also appreciate your sharing your heart and what God is showing you. He’s so faithful to help us when we submit to Him! May the Lord continue to fill you with His power and peace as you trust in Him!

  46. Hi Kristen
I followed the fast last year and was receiving the newsletter often. This year my email was not accepted because it was put on some no email list.
    Can you tell me why?
    I live in Switzerland

    • Hi, Maria. I’m sorry you’ve had trouble registering for the fast. I’m not sure why you received that error message. Others have as well. I’ll try to enter your info from my end. Let me know if you don’t receive an email asking you to confirm your subscription.

  47. Hello all I started the fast on the first. I did the Daniels Fast last year but I did not do continual praying and any other scripture reading. This year I will include praying and bible devotional to it. I look forward to seeing the change and what is to come.

    • That’s great! I’m so glad to hear it. I know the Lord will honor your commitment to Him and to knowing His Word. May God bless you abundantly as you fight the good fight of faith!

  48. I am going to start this Fast on the 11th. I am slowly preparing for it. i am praying and cleaning my fridge and pantry. I also shared this with my coworkers and we are 3 so far 🙂 Lord please help us.

    • That’s great! I’m so glad to hear you’ll be doing the Daniel Fast AND that you have friends joining you! God will certainly help you as you trust in Him.

  49. I just signed up to receive weekly inspiration and will be starting the Daniel fast today. I’ve been in the midst of a major storm within my life for about 6 months now. I’ve been reading and studying scripture consistently and praying often throughout the day. In this storm I find myself wanting to give in and then I find myself weak and fragile. I know that God is with me and that fear, weakness and weeping is directly related to my flesh and not my spirit. My spiritual growth is priority and I am hoping that my time of fasting will strengthen my relationship with God, renew my spirit and mind and help me to learn from from my past by in order to generate the Hope in Christ. God bless you all that are also fasting and who may be reading my comments

    • Rodney, I’m encouraged by your comments. Even though life hasn’t been easy, you aren’t giving up. You’re giving all to God! May the Lord draw you deeper into His Word and fill you with joy as you grow closer to Him. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:13).

  50. Hello Kristen I was led to your site for encouragements, devotions and recipes.
I am actually on my way to purchase your book at a local Christian book store.
In the past I have had trouble keeping my commitment fasting vows to the Lord. Our church is having a 21 Day Corporate fast and I really want to push through and enjoy this fast and stay on target. I really need to draw near to the Lord, because my prayer time has reduced, and financial giving as well. Although the peace of the Lord has been sustaining me during a turbulent time. My petition is to draw nearer, so I can trust Him with all!

Thank you for your ministry and faithfulness to the Lord

    • Hi, Phil! I’m glad the Lord led you to my website. Thank you for purchasing The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast. I pray it’s a blessing to you. May the Lord fill you with power and peace as you walk in obedience to Him!

      • Kristen, your book was confirmation for this fast. The Lord is defiantly using you to help others bring transformation, healing and restoration to our heart. The book is anointed and filled with God’s presence and spiritual food. As I began to read, I knew this book was holy spirit driven. One thing that touched me was Isaiah 58, which I hang also my fast on. I believe Isaiah 58 is the fast that the Lord will accept, especially in these times. As I am on Day 2 Devotion, Ha! The Lord has been trying to get me to lay down my Isaac, when I saw this, I knew I was on the right path. As I kill the flesh, God has already started to download revelation. I would like to share one, if I may, I believe its a word for now. As I was worshiping, this morning I felt in my spirit, the Lord speak and tell me;” Phil, worship is not about how much time you worship, but the time you spent worshiping Me”
Krsiten, thank you for your faithfulness! I do have a question, How do you usually spread out your meals, as far as times.

        • Phil, thanks so much for sharing what the Lord has been showing you. Also, as far as frequency of eating on the Daniel Fast, there is no set schedule. Everyone approaches the fast differently. Some people eat regular meals and may even have a snack or two in between. Others might skip a meal to pray. There is no right or wrong way to do it. Ask the Lord to guide you and help you determine what YOU should do. He will give you wisdom!

  51. I have been paticipating for the last 5 years I am asking God to open my understanding to his word more that my children be saved and that my financial status be increased

    • Hi, Yolanda! I’m so glad you’re doing the Daniel Fast again. May the Lord give you insight into His Word in a deeper way on this fast, bless you financially, and draw your children to Him. Believing God with you for great things in 2016!

  52. My wife and i are excited to find this website. We both have recently renewed our relationship with God and we got water baptized yesterday. It was an amazing experience that we was able to share together. Yesterday we started the 21 days of prayer and fasting. We believe that God has lead us to the Daniel fast. Thank you for the encouragement and this site it is a big help! ?

    • Peter, thank you for sharing what God is doing in your life. I’m so glad to hear you and your wife were baptized. God will certainly bless your obedience to Him. So get ready! The Lord is going to work powerfully among you on this fast. I can’t wait to hear your testimony!

      • Kristen, thank you for your prayers and help in this battle. May God bless you richly. Is there anything you need prayer for?

        • Thank you, Lisa. I need direction for 2016 in my “work.” Please pray that I can discern what the Lord wants me to focus on after this fast. 🙂 I appreciate your prayers so much!

  53. I signed up in dec. Not sure why I have not received any email

    • Hi! Yes, I see that you’re signed up and that you have received the following emails on these dates:

      1) Jan 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast – Week 1 (Jan-03-2016 12:00 AM)
      2) Jan 2016 Fast – Only One Week to Go! (Dec-28-2015 12:00 PM)
      3) Jan 16 Fast – Two Weeks to Go! (Dec-22-2015 6:00 AM)

I’m almost positive they’re in your spam folder. Sometimes that’s what happens when people can’t find the emails. 🙂

  54. Hi there from Mozambique. We have started our fast yesterday, this is my first fast as christian. I am looking forward to make the 21 days fast and most of all to get really close to Jesus. Last year was so hard for me, I was unemployed, depending on my husband and being humiliated for that. Then came the family problems which i had to sort out with my parents. These family issues made me pack up and leave my husband’s house with my 4 blessings(2 boys and 2 girls). I ended up resigning from the small job i had to start my own business which is not going the way i predicted. My finances are a total mess up. I am in a real need of getting myself together and FIGTH!
Hope i’ll find my way during these 21 days of prayers and meditation. God bless.

  55. Andrea upshaw says:

Hello Krieten i haven’t started yet i’m going to stared today my Daniels fast I am excited about doing the Daniel Fast.thank you Andrea upshaw

  56. Hi, I started the fast yesterday January 4 and while searching the web found your site. I signed up after you sent the email so would you be able to email me the first week’s email sent on 1/3. Yesterday was good but today is a bit of a struggle. I have fasted before but when doing it by myself it’s hard and I tend to give up before the finish line. I’m so happy I found this site/group. I want a deeper/closer walk with God. May the Lord bless us all as we endeavor to seek His face. Special prayer request-please keep my daughter (Keyanna) in your prayers as she goes to take her exam. This is her 3rd time trying and she is seeking for guidance/direction. Be blessed.

    • Hi, Stacy! I checked, and it looks like you did receive the Week 1 email (Jan-04-2016 10:49 AM). Check your spam folder. 🙂 I’m thankful you found my website, too! I pray it’s an encouragement. Be sure to check out the Jan 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast Facebook Page for extra support.

“Lord God, I pray you will give Keyanna wisdom she needs to do well on her test. Calm her anxiety, Lord, and fill her with your peace. May Keyanna look to you for help and put her trust in you. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!

  57. It is interesting that The Lord laid it on my heart for me to start a Daniel Fast on the 3rd of January and I just found this site today. I am specifically asking for John 10:10 to be prayed for me. God has promised me an abundant life and the enemy can not kill, steal, or destroy me. He made several attempts in 2015. I am declaring victory in 2016. It is finished. Amen.

    • Hi, Lisa! I’m so thankful the Lord led you right to my website. He is so faithful to help us! I’m believing with you for a year of victory in Jesus’ name!

  58. Edye Simmons says:

Hi kristen. My daughters church is doing the Daniel fast from the 6 to the 20th of Jan. I was led to join in on the fast. 2015 was turbulent. Im claiming victory and spirtual growth in my family. Im in nursing school and need prayer through the math. God bless you for your dedication and inspiration

    • I’m thankful you’ve joined! May God fill you with His power as you seek Him! I pray He will also give you wisdom and insight with the math, that you will understand it and do well in it. 🙂

  59. I started this on January 3rd and I am prayerfully hoping for a closer walk with God. Will you please pray for me? Thank you and God bless you!!

    • Hi, Jennifer! I’m so glad to hear you’re doing the Daniel Fast! You will develop a deeper relationship with the Lord as you fast and pray. And, yes, I will pray for you. 🙂

“Lord God, thank you for Jennifer. You have called her to this fast, and you will sustain her through it. You know the challenges she’s facing. You see her hurts and her fears. I pray that she will release everything to you in prayer. Help Jennifer to walk by faith and not by sight, to trust in your commands and obey them. Fill her with your power and peace. Give her strength to stand against the enemy’s attacks. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!”

  60. Roanglia Benjamin says:

      • Roanglia Benjamin says:

Thank u for the encouraging words as I carry on this fast. My husband is having problems this year but I’m asking God to cover him and help him stay on it also.

  61. Good evening! Are we able to use cocoa powder?

  62. Can I drink CRANBERRY POMEGRANATE Flavor juice ?

    • Hi! The recommended beverage on the Daniel Fast is water. You should drink it most of the time. Fruit juices (100%, unsweetened – read ingredients to make sure) CAN be used, such to flavor recipes and occasionally as a drink. But I don’t recommend drinking a lot of fruit juice, although having it fresh from an extractor is better and more nutritious than store-bought juice. Water is very important on the fast, so you don’t ever want to compromise your water intake by drinking too much juice. I hope this explanation makes sense!

  63. S Johnson says:

Started the Daniel Fast on the 4th with our church, it is only a 6 day fast, I am thankful I found your website while looking for recipes, I am going to try and do the 21 day, and look forward to receiving the weekly support !!!

  64. Patricia Sequeira says:

    Hi Kristen,
this is my first time doing the Daniel’s fast, and I have to be honest with you…it’s very hard! but I’m praying also to be capable to do until the end.
    Thank you for sharing!!

    • Hi, Patricia! I’m thankful you’re doing the Daniel Fast. Yes, it’s tough. I’ve done the fast numerous times since 2009, and it’s always a challenge. But God is also always faithful. He will help you every step of the way, giving you strength and endurance as you trust in Him.

  65. Alaya Thomas says:

    Good Morning Kristen.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to receive any morning letters (emails). I have started the fast on Monday and signed up a couple of times. I know I accidentally signed up under the leadership link one of the times.

I know that I’ll eventually receive them and I thank you so much for reaching out to me to help!

    • Yesterday, I sent out the Week 1 email again to anyone who hadn’t yet received it (like you), but I still see that you didn’t get it. I’m sorry about that! Look for an email from me this morning. I’m just going to forward you a copy. Thanks for your patience!

  66. Sheena Brunson says:

I have to say I really appreciate the gift God gave you to create this website. Our church as started ours on Jan 4 and will end Jan 24. I have never done this fast for this extended period of time. Everything you said about preparing, praying, reading, writing in journal, etc. is so true. I have done those things and it is such a good help! Some other things you mentioned I am going to take home with me. Thank you so much for that. I am so excited to dig into these recipes. Will you keep posted

    • Hi, Sheena! Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. Yes, this website has been a gift to me from the Lord. And, I’m so thankful He uses it to bless others! May the Lord fill you with His power and peace on this fast. I pray you will experience His love in a deeper way as you seek Him. 🙂

  67. Lois Cooper says:

When will you be sending the Week 2 Prayer Points to the team leaders?

  68. Hi Kristen. I survived the first week..wahoo!! I couldn’t have done it without the Lord ??
Can we include protein powder in our smoothies as long it doesn’t include any sugar? Thank you for your website & your words of encouragement. I pray the Lord will continue to direct your path & bless your endeavors ?

  69. Charlotte Spikes says:

    Great diet

  70. Carlita Jessamy says:

    Hi Kristen,
My name is Carlita and my sister and I started the fast on January 5 however I thought I was ready but my preparation was not correct and although we are 1 week into it I really felt that I was not being honest with my fast. My question to you is can I start over at this late date into the fast so that I can get complete consecration?

    Thank you,

    • Hi, Carlita! Many times I have begun a fast and felt like Week 1 wasn’t what I wanted it to be as far as my focus. So you’re not alone! What to do at this point is completely up to you. Keep in mind, though, that you haven’t failed on this fast. Sure, maybe you weren’t prepared, but you are now! Also, know that God isn’t disappointed with you at all. He is pleased with your desire to begin 2016 in prayer and fasting. Either decision you make will be the correct one. The only poor decision would be to quit all together. 🙂 May the Lord fill you with His power and peace as you trust in Him! (Do you have a copy of my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast? If not, you might want to get it ASAP. The book is designed to walk you through every step of the fast, from getting ready for it to coming off the fast. It will be a huge help to you!)

  71. Mercy Munywoki says:

    Hello Kristen.

I know I am late but I have joined the group today. I will be one week behind and I hope that is ok. I was introduced to the fast last year and it changed me as a person. I learnt to trust in God and started a whole new relationship with him. I am looking forward to doing the daniel fast again. Please send me the the emails to encourage and support me. I have never done it in a group. I’m already feeling blessed as we speak. Thank you Jesus for finding me this group. And for Kristen. God Bless you all.

    • Hi, Mercy! Yes, of course, it’s ok that you’re just now joining. 🙂 Be sure to sign up for the emails through the link in this post (or on the right sidebar). I’m thankful you are seeking the Lord through the Daniel Fast. He has great things in store for you this year!

  72. This is my second year doing the January Daniel Fast. Last year, a little after the second week in, I really started feeling God’s presence and saw him move in powerful ways. It definitely strengthened my relationship with Him. I started to backslide this fall so I’m praying this year I will maintain that connection for the full year!

    • Hi, Tracie! I’m glad you’re doing the Daniel Fast again! Thank you for sharing what the Lord did in your heart during your fast last year. As you draw close to Him this January, you can be certain He will come close to you. I pray you will experience an even greater awareness of His presence in and through your life. May He fill you with His power and peace as you seek Him through prayer. 🙂

  73. I’m starting to fast today. My focus is on praying 3 times a day for the salvation of our family.

  74. My husband and I just started the Daniel Fast along with our church on Monday. We are so excited and looking forward to growing closer to God through the fast and also beginning a healthy lifestyle.

    • That’s wonderful, Tiffany! I’m so glad to hear you and your husband are doing the fast together. It’s such a wonderful time to grow closer to the Lord and to each other. May the Lord fill you with His power as you seek Him!

  75. Judith Brown says:

This so echoed my heart. I am weary. Praying for strength to fight during and after this fast.

    • Hi, Judith! I’m so thankful you are seeking the Lord through the Daniel Fast. I pray He will strengthen you and fill you with His power as you trust Him!

  76. I’m so excited!! looking forward to grow in the Lord and with the Lord. 🙂

  77. Hi my name is kionna. I’ve been doing the 21 day Daniel fast I started the 4th January. I feel so good about this. I have one question Can I use refried beans in the can?

    • Hi, Kionna! I’m glad to hear you’re doing the Daniel Fast. To answer your question, no fried foods are allowed on the fast. BUT I have a yummy recipe for “Refried” Beans. I think they taste better than the can. Plus, these beans are very easy to make, which make it a win-win recipe! 🙂

  78. Laura Lerma says:

All the comments are so inspiring.. I decided to join because of several reasons. My 11 yr old son Ezekiel and my niece Kelly are being bullied ..my son doesn’t have friends. Children see him as weird. He is quiet and studious. My niece gets bullied because of her weight. My son has been battling depression at times, sadness, and anxiety. Also we’ve been struggling financially. .. my daughter Tammy and her boyfriend Daniel don’t want to go church anymore. .our church is falling apart.. my work is stressful at times, sometimes I think I just can’t remember everything. My boss said at me.. he knows I’m too nice. .and will never disrespect him. I help a coworker who most staff dislike so I’m being judged.. but my main reason is that I want to be closer to God I want to know him I want to feel his peace I want to be renewed. I just want to be able to help and give comforting words I desire wisdom to understand his word..I just want God in my life.

    • I’m so glad you aren’t letting fear keep you from joining the Daniel Fast and fighting in prayer! God promises to help us when we bring our cares to Him. You may seem overwhelmed by the circumstances in your life right now, but, remember, the Lord is your strength. He can help you stand in faith when you’re weak. He can provide peace when anxiety presses in. May the Lord come near to you on this fast as you pour out your heart to Him.

  79. Laura Lerma says:

I want that emptiness in me to be filled with his love. I’m married for 22 years but I am not happy anymore. I wish I was free and find someone who believes and needs God in his life like I do.. Ivery battle depression my health is not so good. Diabetes cholesterol caricature arythmia..but I feel that God is healing me slowly .. I know his blessings are so close to me. I truly seek his guidance in my life. My oldest son has improved so much from his ad perverse anxiety and depression. My parents have been struggling financially I have an aunt that I’m praying that she can get closer to God and stop causing problems for my family… peace for this world that is getting so lost and are forgetting that God with us.. for strength from God in natural disasters..

    • Laura, that emptiness CAN be filled with God’s love! That’s the only thing that CAN satisfy you! I pray you will draw near to God through the Daniel Fast, trusting Him to help you overcome your battle with depression. I suggest writing down ways God has blessed you over the years. As you reflect on His goodness, your heart will be filled with thanksgiving. Also, praise Him. When you focus on how big and great God is, your circumstances are put into proper perspective. You might considering trying “The ABCS of Praise”. God loves you very much, and He wants to help you. You can trust Him to do it!

  80. I’m finding this page a little late. God has been calling me to a fast but I have been lazy. I will be joining in tomorrow and am so glad there will be people praying in agreement with me. Praying for my marriage and the family that I want to start. And I will be praying for each person on the January Daniel fast!

    • Wonderful, Randi! That’s the way to FIGHT! 🙂 May the Lord strengthen you and uphold you with His righteous right hand as you draw near to Him! Thanks for praying.

  81. Tammy Speight says:

I had been on the Daniel Fast for 6 days before I signed up. I am doing it with my church family; however, due to caring for my adult son with autism and sick parents I don’t get to go to church so some days I feel alone in it. So, I decided to step onto the battlefield along side you as well as my church. Every battle won in Christ!

    • Hi, Tammy! I’m glad to hear you’re doing the Daniel Fast. God knows your situation, and He sees right where you are. He also sees how you serve your family, and I know He will bless you for it. On the days you’re unable to attend church, you can watch online. Our church has two services each week (9:00am and 10:45am CST), and they’re both available online (www.jamesriver.org — click on the “Watch Online” link in the middle of the page). I highly recommend it! 🙂

  82. I received the emails for weeks 1 & 3 but not for week 2 🙁 I have no idea why.

  83. Hi Kristen, oh my gosh I made the broiled polenta last night & its so good!! I’m having it with my Jamaican Chili for lunch ? Your recipes are awesome & I’ll be preparing the majority for future meals when the fast is completed. Oh by the way the date honey is wonderful!! Thank you so much & God Bless ??

  84. Talitha McSween says:

Hi Kristen, I have been following you a while now but I don’t comment a lot and this time around I am kind of late to read your post but trust me when I say it was timely. My church and I now started our Daniel Fast from today and I know you started on the 3rd, but I choose to fall in to receive the the rest of the weekly emails. I always look forward to this time of putting self aside and seeing What God wants to reveal to His people.
Since I discovered your website, I always refer your site to many and your heart is so big and filled with the LOVE of Christ. THANK YOU! 🙂

    • Talitha, thank you so much for you words of encouragement! You blessed me! 🙂 I’m glad to hear your’re doing Daniel Fast with your church. Every time my church has fasted together, we’ve experienced a mighty move of the Holy Spirit that has continued for months (and even years). I pray your church is strengthened and filled with God’s power as you seek Him. Thank you for taking time to comment!

      • Talitha McSween says:

Hi…… It my pleasure!!!!! 🙂 I wanted to know since I subscribed to your weekly nuggets as you all are fasting, I have not received any. I did subscribe late, like this week, but I saw the confirmation link and that was all I got; no weekly updates. I even checked my junk mail and nothing.

        • I just checked and saw that you received the email I sent out today. I’m glad because I don’t know why you didn’t get anything sooner. Thanks for letting me know!

          • Talitha McSween says:

Yes, after I wrote you, the following day I saw it. Thank YOU 🙂 Would love to meet you one day…. WHO KNOWS! God’s people always bounce up at some point. I love watching and doing your youtube videos!!!!!

          • That’s true! You just never know. 🙂 Thank you for the positive feedback on the exercise videos! I’m glad you’re enjoying and DOING the exercises!

  85. I sure do have a closer walk with GOD. …
    I did some housekeeping.
    Obedience is better than sacrifice.
Fight a good fight of faith even when I don’t feel like it.
That circumstances that put me in an uncomfortable place has become a lighter loud
    I feel myself getting better.
    Won’t He do it
Pray for my strength in the Lord
    Thanks so much
    God bless
Peace and Joy to you always, shefvon

  86. Dear Kristen – I came upon Daniel in my Bible study yesterday and feel called to pray and fast for 21 days. It was unusual because most of my focus lately has been in the New Testament. I so want to hear from the Lord regarding the direction of my life. Just since October my husband has lost his job, our house burned down, my daughter was in an accident that totaled one of our vehicles, my husband broke his foot and needs surgery on his shoulder for a previous injury, and our marriage is in peril due to longstanding issues. I feel like I am coming apart at the seams…BUT I know God works all things for the good of those who love Him. I know He is with me and for me. I trust that He will not leave or forsake me. My desire is to please Him and draw close to Him, but I have a fear that I may not be able to complete this fast alone. Is there anyone who would like to join me and begin fasting now? Love and Blessings to all – Jody

    • Jody, it sounds like a focused time of prayer and fasting is very timely for you right now. God will certainly honor your desire to draw near to Him. I believe He will send someone your way to join you. I pray God will display His power and glory in your life as you seek Him!

  87. Hi Kristen! I just found your website today praise God. I know the Lord led me here but I feel Him leading me to fast and pray in a more consistent way. Especially to draw closer to HIM in these trying times and stand firm on His Word. I’ve never done a Daniel fast for this length of time. I desire more of God to move in my life, my family, and my church but also the body of Christ. Thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord in being available on this journey of a deeper relationship with our Father! God bless you immensely!

    • Hi, Shenell! I’m thankful the Lord led you to my website. He is obviously working in your heart right now. I pray you will respond in obedience. May God bless you abundantly this year as you seek Him!

  88. Kristen I want to begin to thank the LORD Jesus Christ for the strength and breakthroughs I have gone through these last 20 days of my journey on the DANIEL FAST. Also thank you for having an amazing dedication to doing the will of God. Your site and emails have also been an amazing encouragement to me. Reading your blogs these amazing recipes and reading God’s Word has e help me to see God purpose and precepts of how to eat to live than living to eat.
Tomorrow is my last day and as I searching guidance the LORD gave me John 4:34 “MY FOOD IS TO DO THE WILL OF HIM WHO SENT ME, AND TO FINISH HIS WORK” It was such a revelation and changed my heart upon why I started this fast. Since I started on this journey a soul was saved, I lost over 20lbs and 4in. around my waist 10 days in since I started the fast halleluya halleluya HE did it for me He is healing my body I have tried everything to lose weight but I failed everytime but I let It go trusting the LORD would help me some day which HE has and as I sit to read the WORD it is transformed my belief how much more important it is to TRUST in the LORD to see you through all trials as small or big they may seem. Bless you Kristen hope you continue blessing us with words of encouragement recipes and prayer.
I am going to keep using your recipes and this site as a guide.

    • What a wonderful testimony! Thank you for taking time to share how the Lord has changed you and how He has been working. May God continue to bless you abundantly as you seek to honor Him in all you do!

  89. Merrissa Searcy says:

I just recently learned about the Daniel Fast and I’m excited to say that I am starting week two. The hardest part for me has been caffeine. I’m a big coffee drinker, 3 to 4 large coffees a day. The migraine headaches have been excruciating. I never in a million years thought I would try to give up my coffee, but then I was convicted that if it’s so important to me that i don’t ever want to give it up, then coffee is probably the most important thing for me to give up for the fast. I’m a nurse in a neonatal ICU and the migraine was so bad one day that I took an Excedrin migraine, which has caffeine in it. I felt guilty , like I was cheating, but I honestly was in so much pain that I couldn’t take care of my patients. On other days I’ve been able to manage the headaches with Ibuprofen. What are your thoughts on taking the Excedrin? Did that technically ruin my fast?

    • Hi, Merrissa! I’m glad you are seeking the Lord through prayer and fasting. God will certainly bless you for your commitment and sacrifice. Is God disappointed with you for taking a slightly caffeinated medication to ease your headache pain? No. He doesn’t condemn you (Rom. 8:1). The Lord understands your struggle. The best thing you can do is keep going on the fast. Don’t let that minor incident get you down. Satan would love to discourage you and cause you to doubt the effectiveness of your fast. But don’t listen to him! Keep your eyes on the Lord. Press on, and believe God for great things!

  90. Hi Kristen,
Although I’m late to start the January fast, I will be starting it on Feb 1. Better late than never right?! I came across your website and it has helped me tremendously not only with the encouragement I needed, but with the great information and recipes to make the 21 days successful and meaningful.

I am doing this fast to draw even more closer to God and in thanksgiving for a prayer request answered unexpectedly. THANK YOU JESUS!!

    • Hi! I’m so glad the Lord led you to my website and that you’ll be doing the Daniel Fast. May you experience God’s nearness in a special way as you seek Him!

  91. Hello, I didn’t do a Daniel Fast but I did commit to fasting from all meats & from chocolate. I’m hoping that’s still considered a fast.

    • Hi, Lorene. Yes, you still did a partial fast. And, yes, the Lord will still honor your commitment! 🙂 I pray you are filled with His power and peace in 2016 as you trust in Him!

  92. It is my first day. I feel so tired. Sort of dragging myself through the day and do not have a happy disposition.

    • Debbie, what you’re experiencing is completely normal! Some people do experience lethargy during the first few days. Your body is adjusting and detoxing. Hang in there. It will get better! Just remember, the Lord is with you. He will help you as you put your trust in Him. Fasting is tough, but when you feel weak, lean on the Lord’s strength. May God fill you with His power and peace as you seek Him!

  93. Taeneia White-Ducre says:

Hello, I’m on my 2nd day of the Daniel Fast and really enjoying the meals in your book. Thank you so much.

    My questions:
Do I need to limit how much I eat each day?
Do I stop eating at a certain time in the evening?

I didn’t see this in your book, but could have overlooked.

    Thanks in advance,

    • Hi, Taeneia! I’m glad you’re doing the Daniel Fast. Thank you for purchasing my book! The number of times you eat throughout the day is a personal decision. Some people choose to eat three meals. Some might add a snack or two in between. Others may skip a meal to pray. There isn’t a particular formula for the frequency of meals. Let God guide you as to what your fast should look like. The same goes for the amount of food. Even though you’re eating, it’s still a fast. That means you don’t eat to your heart’s content! 🙂 Also, you don’t have to stop eating at a particular time. There is no set schedule for the Daniel Fast. I hope this information helps clarify. May the Lord bless you abundantly as you seek Him on your fast!

  94. This year I decided to do a 40 day fast for my husband’s friend. As I was looking on line for ideas on what to cook, I stumbled across your book, which I truly love. It gave me so many ideas in what to try. My husband started his 40 day fast, and in your book I have found great ideas on what to make. As I was looking for a recipe to make piña colada ice cream, I stumbled (once again) to your website and started reading, and found this year’s theme is fight. I say this my 3rd confirmation from God. I am now on a 21 day Daniel Fast, with 2 days out of the week no food just water and the purpose is for a spiritual breakthrough in our church, with my family, and for the children (which are my burden). ” We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12. Thank you for your book, it is amazing. I will be making the pizza and flatbread this weekend. Thank you for my confirmation that I am on the right track. I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe things happen for a reason, and God confirms in many ways.

    • Hi, Clarisa! I appreciate your comments and encouragement. I’m so thankful the Lord led you to my website, and I’m glad you’ve been blessed my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast. Yes, I agree that the Lord has definitely confirmed His plans for you right now. May He continue to strengthen you with His power and lead you by His Spirit as you fast and pray. I’m believing with you for great things as a result of this time. Keep fighting the good fight in Jesus’ name!
