Notes

  • Substitute water in place of non-dairy milk (or half of it).
  • Make sure either the banana or strawberries are frozen so your smoothie is chilled.
  • To freeze bananas, remove peels before placing in freezer. Put in a plastic zip-top bag until completely frozen.

Hello Kristen,
I fasted in January with you. However, as I read your article today, I want to copy the recipes you have placed there but don’t care to copy all the ‘comments, etc’. How do I get ‘just’ the recipe(s)?
Thank you and God Bless ALL you do while encouraging us in the Lord.
Ruth

Hi, Ruth! You can copy just the recipe and paste it to a Word document. Or, you can buy my cookbook and have recipes at your fingertips! 🙂

Kristen, what would you recommend to add additional protein to this smoothie? Thanks for all you do to promote spiritual fasting and healthy eating!

Hi, Diane! Great question. You can add almond meal or some other nut-based powder. Another idea is to use a plant-based protein powder. I’ve found a couple that don’t contain any added sugar or other restricted ingredients. Check your local supermarket or health food store (or look online). Read the label carefully, though, to make sure it’s Daniel Fast friendly.

I make smoothies all the time, but I have never made a green smoothie because I do not like bananas and not a fan of mango. I know both of those fruits are smoothing agents. Since I do not eat bananas, but I’ll try the mango. What other fruit would you suggest as a smoothing agent for making smoothies? P.S. I know dairy is not approved, but I wanted also include that I don’t eat yogurt either.

Unsweetened coconut milk adds a nice, creamy texture. Avocado does, too! 🙂

Is there anything you can recommend to add some tartness to smoothies? I’ve tried lemon and it just doesn’t do anything. I’ve tried Crystal Light, but heard that it was not good for you. I’ve also tried true lemon and don’t like the taste of it. I just don’t like my smoothies to taste sweet – I need a little kick. I do plain ones with cinnamon and love this. I guess I’m just a lemon lover!

Well, I have to admit, I’ve never had a request for less sweetness with smoothies! 🙂 You might try pineapple; even though it’s a fruit, it does have a bit of tartness to it. Lime juice is a thought. Grapefruit juice might be too much. Hmmm, maybe someone else has another idea?! I’ll think on it and let you know if I come up with something else. 🙂

Hello,
I would like to know where I can find your testimony of your extreme weight loss?

I don’t have such a testimony. However, you may be thinking of my friend’s guest post from a few years ago: http://www.ultimatedanielfast.com/guest-post-elena-wilkins-living-a-fasted-lifestyle/. Is that the one?

I read it back in August 2012. It was about a sister that was abused when she was only a young girl so she got so depressed that she start eating so nobody else would like her. However, years later she got free and lost all the weight she had put on. It was on this site, but maybe you don’t remember. It was such a powerful testimony, so tell me if it rings a bell.

Yes, I remember now! It was an article I wrote for Pentecostal Evangel. Here it is: http://www.ultimatedanielfast.com/syds-story-the-sweet-taste-of-freedom-by-kristen-feola/. So glad I found it!

Pineapple is good. Blueberries or peaches would work great. Whatever fruit combo you like. The banana just adds a nice, creamy texture to the smoothie.

So excited to start this Daniel Fast again with you this year! This was so yummy that my 23 month old wanted some and said, “It’s nummy!” We used mixed berries.
