Banana Milk
On the Daniel Fast, no animal products of any kind are allowed, including milk. For some of you, this is a true sacrifice. Well, don't despair. Today's recipe will encourage you. Banana Milk is a healthy replacement for cow's milk, made with bananas, water, and cinnamon. Plus, it's completely Daniel Fast friendly. Once you taste this sweet alternative to regular milk, you might never go back to the other stuff!
Ingredients
- 2 very ripe bananas, peeled
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup ice
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Use immediately.
Notes
- Substitute water with unsweetened almond or rice milk.
- Serve with Nutty Fruit Cereal for breakfast.
- Pour over Gimme More Granola for a snack.
- Mix in a smoothie instead of using water.
- Dip Oatmeal Raisin Cookies in it!
Hi Kristen,
I have been diagnosed with crohn’s disease and I am believing in God for a supernatural healing so I have decided to go on a Daniel fast; but even with this I still have to be cautious with what I put in my body as I do not know if my body will be able to digest it properly and not cause me pains and diarrhoea. I know I can eat fruits but not fruits with too many seeds or skins. I’ll have to get rid of it first before I can eat it and not raw it has to be soft or cooked. basically I need to stay away from food that will cause my stomach a struggle to digest and react negatively in me. At the moment I am still experimenting. So if you have any tips for me I’ll really appreciate it. Thank you.
Hi, Johnette! I’m glad to hear you’re doing the Daniel Fast. How is it going, so far? It’s difficult for me to make suggestions because the challenges that come with Crohn’s vary from person to person. I pray God will give you insight and wisdom with your food choices on the fast. May He bless you abundantly as you seek Him through prayer!
I really enjoyed this tastes just as good as regular milk!
Great, Gabby! I think it’s even BETTER! 🙂
I tried the banana milk for breakfast, added some almond butter and it has satisfied me well past noon. So I am looking forward to trying more recipes.
I’m so glad you liked it! 🙂
Hi, I’m so confused about whether unsweetened almond milk is ok to drink on the fast or not? If you look at the ingredients it has natural flavors in it and i even think preservatives? Is there an alternative? Thanks!
Yes, unsweetened nut milks are allowed, but some brands are better than others. You can also make your own. This Banana Milk recipe is certainly an alternative you can use, too. If you haven’t tried it yet, you should. It’s very tasty! Thanks for your question.
Hello, maybe I’m very confused, but I thought we could only add milk products to foods- but not necessarily drink milk as a “fluid” only drink water, no caffienated drinks coffee, tea, etc. just pure water or tap water? Just wondering… and then again I thought I saw somewhere you could make smoothies? Thanks for any clarification on this point. Lela
Good question. Water is the main beverage on the fast. But, you are allowed to use smoothies (which is fruit and water) as a snack or meal. Most people are probably not going to drink a glass of Banana Milk. It’s intended for use in smoothies or recipes such as Nutty Fruit Cereal.
I actually began to limit my milk intake following last years fast and completely switched over to almond and coconut milk(unsweetened) several months ago which is quit a feat for me since I used to go through around 2 gallons a week. Always LOVED milk! Love bananas and am anxious to try this. Since I usually get my bananas closer to the green side, I’ll have to let them ripen a bit. God bless what you are doing. It is a blessing to so many.
I hope you like the recipe. I think you will. 🙂
A few months back I went from being a semi-vegetarian / flexitarian most of my life (I always called myself a borderline vegetarian) to full fledged vegetarian / vegan. I knew giving up the meat would never be a problem since I rarely ever cooked or ate it anyway. Moving toward veganisim has been a bit more challenging though. Since I’ve always loved to try new recipes and ideas, I always like finding new combinations to try. So, while I’ve already found a plant based milk that I love, flax milk, the idea of banana milk was too good to pass up and I’m looking forward to trying it.
Yum this looks absolutely delicious! However for many the traditional daniel fast includes giving up many pleasures including the drinking of beverages besides water.
Yes, I agree that people have different convictions as to the specifics of the Daniel Fast, as far as the food guidelines…and that’s fine! We must each be led by the Spirit as to what the fast should look like. God is faithful, and He will help us with those decisions. Thanks for your comment!
Though I am not a fan of bananas, I am going to make this and let my husband enjoy it. He doesn’t tolerate milk and since it isn’t on the list of can-haves, I will see if he thinks I should …lol.. I don’t like bananas.. so far though all recipes I have tried from your list have been wonderful. God bless you and all who are looking to become closer to God and His plans in our lives..
Great, Tina. Let me know what he thinks! Be brave, and give it a taste yourself. You might just like it! 🙂
Hey Kristen! I really loved this recipe. I started my fast on Friday and I am loving it! I love your book! Thank you for everything!
Thanks, Jaclyn! I’m glad you enjoyed the recipe and are being blessed by the book. May God strengthen you with His power as you press on to know Him!
Can we cat Greek yogurt
No dairy products are allowed on the fast. Sorry! Here’s a list of the specific food guidelines: http://www.ultimatedanielfast.com/ultimate-daniel-fast-food-guidelines/. Thanks for your question!
Can I substitute soy milk for almond or rice?
Yes, as long as it’s unsweetened.
I have been toying with the idea of giving up milk products even after my fast but I have concerns regarding my calcium and vitamin D intake since I have been low in the past. What do you eat to satisfy your daily requirements?
Usually I take vitamin D supplements in the winter (vitamin D is hard to get through food; most of it enters the body through sunlight exposure). I don’t drink milk at all, so I eat a variety of foods which are high calcium. Good calcium sources on the Daniel Fast are: Spinach, kale, white beans, okra, and collard greens. When NOT on the fast, you can get calcium through eggs, fish, and yogurt.
