Date-Walnut Spread
2 cups Medjool dates, pitted
1 1/2 cups walnuts
Put dates in a glass bowl, and cover with water. Soak uncovered at room temperature for 2-3 hours. Drain. Use your hands to press out any excess liquid remaining in dates. Place walnuts in a food processor or blender for about 15 seconds. Add dates, and process another 15 seconds or until smooth (less time if you prefer a nutty texture). Serve at room temperature or place in refrigerator until chilled.
Yield: 24 servings (serving size: 1 tablespoon)
Recipe Notes
- Serve with apples, bananas, and/or pears.
- Stir into oatmeal.
- Spread on top of Sesame Seed Rice Crackers.
- Mix in unsweetened coconut flakes.
I’m loving this site. I’m doing the Daniel fast with my church and this site is making it much easier!
That’s great, Darren! I pray the Lord strengthens you with His power as you seek Him.
Great ideas! Thank you so much.
You’re welcome! Thank you for your comment and for visiting my website.
My husband is allergic to walnuts. Is there a good substitute for walnuts that I could use?
You could use pecans. π
That sounds yummy but he’s allergic to pecans also. He is only allergic to those 2 nuts. Any other ideas?
You could certainly try cashews or almonds. If heβs not allergic, peanuts would work great! Or to make it easier you could just mix the dates with all-natural (no sugar) peanut butter.
Those are great substitutes. Good idea! And, yes, it DOES feel good when you are making healthy choices because you are honoring the Lord by taking care of your body. Keep it up! π
I love the date honey recipe. Is there anyway you’re able to break down the calorie information for that for me?
I can, but it may not be right away. π I’ll try to get to as soon as I can!
I didn’t have any walnuts so i mixed some cashews and some sunflower seeds left over from making the breakfast bars and It they both taste yummy yummy!!
Thanks so much! this is my first time trying foods from your site and I went date and nut silly! but I feel like i have accomplished so much in one night and its all healthy and good!
