January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast – FIGHT!

December 3, 2015 By Kristen Feola

January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast logo

This past year I’ve struggled more with prayer than during any other time in my life. There have been days I haven’t wanted to pray. And I didn’t. There have also been times when I couldn’t pray because the hurt was so deep.

My heart has been heavy for family members who continue to reject the Lord. Friends whose marriages are falling apart. People who are facing life-threatening illnesses and addictions. And, of course, I’ve been broken over my own sin.

So much devastation. So much despair. And I’m weary.

But God has reminded me that I must not let up. Now isn’t the time to get lazy in prayer. Now is the time to FIGHT!

The struggles we face aren’t random or coincidental. Forces of good and evil are in conflict all around us. A powerful and present enemy, Satan, wants to steal, kill, and destroy God’s work in our lives and in the lives of our loved ones. But God doesn’t want us to shrink back in fear. He wants us to engage! But, in this battle, physical weapons like guns, knives, or hand grenades are useless. We must put on spiritual armor and fight through prayer!

The good news is that we’re not alone. God is fighting FOR us and WITH us. And, the best part is, He won’t be defeated.

“For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory” (Deut. 20:4).

This January you have the opportunity to fight the good fight with thousands of believers around the world. Make plans now to participate in the January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast. The three-week online fast will be held January 3-23, 2016, and the theme, of course, is, “FIGHT!”

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4).

Will you make the commitment to participate in the Daniel Fast this January? Will you fight on your knees in prayer?

(Online registration has closed for this event.)

God has great plans for you in 2016. Seek His face through prayer and fasting, and praise Him now for the victories to come!

This year I decided to do a 40 day fast for my husband’s friend. As I was looking on line for ideas on what to cook, I stumbled across your book, which I truly love. It gave me so many ideas in what to try. My husband started his 40 day fast, and in your book I have found great ideas on what to make. As I was looking for a recipe to make piña colada ice cream, I stumbled (once again) to your website and started reading, and found this year’s theme is fight. I say this my 3rd confirmation from God. I am now on a 21 day Daniel Fast, with 2 days out of the week no food just water and the purpose is for a spiritual breakthrough in our church, with my family, and for the children (which are my burden). ” We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12. Thank you for your book, it is amazing. I will be making the pizza and flatbread this weekend. Thank you for my confirmation that I am on the right track. I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe things happen for a reason, and God confirms in many ways.

Hi, Clarisa! I appreciate your comments and encouragement. I’m so thankful the Lord led you to my website, and I’m glad you’ve been blessed my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast. Yes, I agree that the Lord has definitely confirmed His plans for you right now. May He continue to strengthen you with His power and lead you by His Spirit as you fast and pray. I’m believing with you for great things as a result of this time. Keep fighting the good fight in Jesus’ name!

Hello, I’m on my 2nd day of the Daniel Fast and really enjoying the meals in your book. Thank you so much.

My questions:
Do I need to limit how much I eat each day?
Do I stop eating at a certain time in the evening?

I didn’t see this in your book, but could have overlooked.

Thanks in advance,

Hi, Taeneia! I’m glad you’re doing the Daniel Fast. Thank you for purchasing my book! The number of times you eat throughout the day is a personal decision. Some people choose to eat three meals. Some might add a snack or two in between. Others may skip a meal to pray. There isn’t a particular formula for the frequency of meals. Let God guide you as to what your fast should look like. The same goes for the amount of food. Even though you’re eating, it’s still a fast. That means you don’t eat to your heart’s content! 🙂 Also, you don’t have to stop eating at a particular time. There is no set schedule for the Daniel Fast. I hope this information helps clarify. May the Lord bless you abundantly as you seek Him on your fast!

Debbie, what you’re experiencing is completely normal! Some people do experience lethargy during the first few days. Your body is adjusting and detoxing. Hang in there. It will get better! Just remember, the Lord is with you. He will help you as you put your trust in Him. Fasting is tough, but when you feel weak, lean on the Lord’s strength. May God fill you with His power and peace as you seek Him!

Hi Kristen,
Although I’m late to start the January fast, I will be starting it on Feb 1. Better late than never right?! I came across your website and it has helped me tremendously not only with the encouragement I needed, but with the great information and recipes to make the 21 days successful and meaningful.

I am doing this fast to draw even more closer to God and in thanksgiving for a prayer request answered unexpectedly. THANK YOU JESUS!!

I just recently learned about the Daniel Fast and I’m excited to say that I am starting week two. The hardest part for me has been caffeine. I’m a big coffee drinker, 3 to 4 large coffees a day. The migraine headaches have been excruciating. I never in a million years thought I would try to give up my coffee, but then I was convicted that if it’s so important to me that i don’t ever want to give it up, then coffee is probably the most important thing for me to give up for the fast. I’m a nurse in a neonatal ICU and the migraine was so bad one day that I took an Excedrin migraine, which has caffeine in it. I felt guilty , like I was cheating, but I honestly was in so much pain that I couldn’t take care of my patients. On other days I’ve been able to manage the headaches with Ibuprofen. What are your thoughts on taking the Excedrin? Did that technically ruin my fast?

Hi, Merrissa! I’m glad you are seeking the Lord through prayer and fasting. God will certainly bless you for your commitment and sacrifice. Is God disappointed with you for taking a slightly caffeinated medication to ease your headache pain? No. He doesn’t condemn you (Rom. 8:1). The Lord understands your struggle. The best thing you can do is keep going on the fast. Don’t let that minor incident get you down. Satan would love to discourage you and cause you to doubt the effectiveness of your fast. But don’t listen to him! Keep your eyes on the Lord. Press on, and believe God for great things!

Kristen I want to begin to thank the LORD Jesus Christ for the strength and breakthroughs I have gone through these last 20 days of my journey on the DANIEL FAST. Also thank you for having an amazing dedication to doing the will of God. Your site and emails have also been an amazing encouragement to me. Reading your blogs these amazing recipes and reading God’s Word has e help me to see God purpose and precepts of how to eat to live than living to eat.
Tomorrow is my last day and as I searching guidance the LORD gave me John 4:34 “MY FOOD IS TO DO THE WILL OF HIM WHO SENT ME, AND TO FINISH HIS WORK” It was such a revelation and changed my heart upon why I started this fast. Since I started on this journey a soul was saved, I lost over 20lbs and 4in. around my waist 10 days in since I started the fast halleluya halleluya HE did it for me He is healing my body I have tried everything to lose weight but I failed everytime but I let It go trusting the LORD would help me some day which HE has and as I sit to read the WORD it is transformed my belief how much more important it is to TRUST in the LORD to see you through all trials as small or big they may seem. Bless you Kristen hope you continue blessing us with words of encouragement recipes and prayer.
I am going to keep using your recipes and this site as a guide.

Hi Kristen! I just found your website today praise God. I know the Lord led me here but I feel Him leading me to fast and pray in a more consistent way. Especially to draw closer to HIM in these trying times and stand firm on His Word. I’ve never done a Daniel fast for this length of time. I desire more of God to move in my life, my family, and my church but also the body of Christ. Thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord in being available on this journey of a deeper relationship with our Father! God bless you immensely!

Dear Kristen – I came upon Daniel in my Bible study yesterday and feel called to pray and fast for 21 days. It was unusual because most of my focus lately has been in the New Testament. I so want to hear from the Lord regarding the direction of my life. Just since October my husband has lost his job, our house burned down, my daughter was in an accident that totaled one of our vehicles, my husband broke his foot and needs surgery on his shoulder for a previous injury, and our marriage is in peril due to longstanding issues. I feel like I am coming apart at the seams…BUT I know God works all things for the good of those who love Him. I know He is with me and for me. I trust that He will not leave or forsake me. My desire is to please Him and draw close to Him, but I have a fear that I may not be able to complete this fast alone. Is there anyone who would like to join me and begin fasting now? Love and Blessings to all – Jody

I sure do have a closer walk with GOD. …
I did some housekeeping.
Obedience is better than sacrifice.
Fight a good fight of faith even when I don’t feel like it.
That circumstances that put me in an uncomfortable place has become a lighter loud
I feel myself getting better.
Won’t He do it
Pray for my strength in the Lord
Thanks so much
God bless

My church and I now started our Daniel Fast from today and I know you started on the 3rd, but I choose to fall in to receive the the rest of the weekly emails. I always look forward to this time of putting self aside and seeing What God wants to reveal to His people.

I had been on the Daniel Fast for 6 days before I signed up. I am doing it with my church family; however, due to caring for my adult son with autism and sick parents I don’t get to go to church so some days I feel alone in it. So, I decided to step onto the battlefield along side you as well as my church. Every battle won in Christ!

Hi, Tammy! I’m glad to hear you’re doing the Daniel Fast. God knows your situation, and He sees right where you are. He also sees how you serve your family, and I know He will bless you for it. On the days you’re unable to attend church, you can watch online. Our church has two services each week (9:00am and 10:45am CST), and they’re both available online (www.jamesriver.org — click on the “Watch Online” link in the middle of the page). I highly recommend it! 🙂

I want that emptiness in me to be filled with his love. I’m married for 22 years but I am not happy anymore. I wish I was free and find someone who believes and needs God in his life like I do.. Ivery battle depression my health is not so good. Diabetes cholesterol caricature arythmia..but I feel that God is healing me slowly .. I know his blessings are so close to me. I truly seek his guidance in my life. My oldest son has improved so much from his ad perverse anxiety and depression. My parents have been struggling financially I have an aunt that I’m praying that she can get closer to God and stop causing problems for my family… peace for this world that is getting so lost and are forgetting that God with us.. for strength from God in natural disasters..

Laura, that emptiness CAN be filled with God’s love! That’s the only thing that CAN satisfy you! I pray you will draw near to God through the Daniel Fast, trusting Him to help you overcome your battle with depression. I suggest writing down ways God has blessed you over the years. As you reflect on His goodness, your heart will be filled with thanksgiving. Also, praise Him. When you focus on how big and great God is, your circumstances are put into proper perspective. You might considering trying “The ABCS of Praise”. God loves you very much, and He wants to help you. You can trust Him to do it!

All the comments are so inspiring.. I decided to join because of several reasons. My 11 yr old son Ezekiel and my niece Kelly are being bullied ..my son doesn’t have friends. Children see him as weird. He is quiet and studious. My niece gets bullied because of her weight. My son has been battling depression at times, sadness, and anxiety. Also we’ve been struggling financially. .. my daughter Tammy and her boyfriend Daniel don’t want to go church anymore. .our church is falling apart.. my work is stressful at times, sometimes I think I just can’t remember everything. My boss said at me.. he knows I’m too nice. .and will never disrespect him. I help a coworker who most staff dislike so I’m being judged.. but my main reason is that I want to be closer to God I want to know him I want to feel his peace I want to be renewed. I just want to be able to help and give comforting words I desire wisdom to understand his word..I just want God in my life.

You may seem overwhelmed by the circumstances in your life right now, but, remember, the Lord is your strength. He can help you stand in faith when you’re weak. He can provide peace when anxiety presses in. May the Lord come near to you on this fast as you pour out your heart to Him.

Hi, Carlita! Many times I have begun a fast and felt like Week 1 wasn’t what I wanted it to be as far as my focus. So you’re not alone! What to do at this point is completely up to you. Keep in mind, though, that you haven’t failed on this fast. Sure, maybe you weren’t prepared, but you are now! Also, know that God isn’t disappointed with you at all. He is pleased with your desire to begin 2016 in prayer and fasting. Either decision you make will be the correct one. The only poor decision would be to quit all together. 🙂 May the Lord fill you with His power and peace as you trust in Him! (Do you have a copy of my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast? If not, you might want to get it ASAP. The book is designed to walk you through every step of the fast, from getting ready for it to coming off the fast. It will be a huge help to you!)

Hi, Patricia! I’m thankful you’re doing the Daniel Fast. Yes, it’s tough. I’ve done the fast numerous times since 2009, and it’s always a challenge. But God is also always faithful. He will help you every step of the way, giving you strength and endurance as you trust in Him.

Hi! The recommended beverage on the Daniel Fast is water. You should drink it most of the time. Fruit juices (100%, unsweetened – read ingredients to make sure) CAN be used, such to flavor recipes and occasionally as a drink. But I don’t recommend drinking a lot of fruit juice, although having it fresh from an extractor is better and more nutritious than store-bought juice. Water is very important on the fast, so you don’t ever want to compromise your water intake by drinking too much juice. I hope this explanation makes sense!

Hi, Jennifer! I’m so glad to hear you’re doing the Daniel Fast! You will develop a deeper relationship with the Lord as you fast and pray. And, yes, I will pray for you. 🙂

“Lord God, thank you for Jennifer. You have called her to this fast, and you will sustain her through it. You know the challenges she’s facing. You see her hurts and her fears. I pray that she will release everything to you in prayer. Help Jennifer to walk by faith and not by sight, to trust in your commands and obey them. Fill her with your power and peace. Give her strength to stand against the enemy’s attacks. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!”

It is interesting that The Lord laid it on my heart for me to start a Daniel Fast on the 3rd of January and I just found this site today. I am specifically asking for John 10:10 to be prayed for me. God has promised me an abundant life and the enemy can not kill, steal, or destroy me. He made several attempts in 2015. I am declaring victory in 2016. It is finished. Amen.

Hi, I started the fast yesterday January 4 and while searching the web found your site. I signed up after you sent the email so would you be able to email me the first week’s email sent on 1/3. Yesterday was good but today is a bit of a struggle. I have fasted before but when doing it by myself it’s hard and I tend to give up before the finish line. I’m so happy I found this site/group. I want a deeper/closer walk with God. May the Lord bless us all as we endeavor to seek His face. Special prayer request-please keep my daughter (Keyanna) in your prayers as she goes to take her exam. This is her 3rd time trying and she is seeking for guidance/direction. Be blessed.

Hi, Stacy! I checked, and it looks like you did receive the Week 1 email (Jan-04-2016 10:49 AM). Check your spam folder. 🙂 I’m thankful you found my website, too! I pray it’s an encouragement. Be sure to check out the Jan 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast Facebook Page for extra support.

“Lord God, I pray you will give Keyanna wisdom she needs to do well on her test. Calm her anxiety, Lord, and fill her with your peace. May Keyanna look to you for help and put her trust in you. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!

Hi there from Mozambique. We have started our fast yesterday, this is my first fast as christian. I am looking forward to make the 21 days fast and most of all to get really close to Jesus. Last year was so hard for me, I was unemployed, depending on my husband and being humiliated for that. Then came the family problems which i had to sort out with my parents. These family issues made me pack up and leave my husband’s house with my 4 blessings(2 boys and 2 girls). I ended up resigning from the small job i had to start my own business which is not going the way i predicted. My finances are a total mess up. I am in a real need of getting myself together and FIGTH!
Hope i’ll find my way during these 21 days of prayers and meditation. God bless.

Hello Kristen I was led to your site for encouragements, devotions and recipes.
I am actually on my way to purchase your book at a local Christian book store.
In the past I have had trouble keeping my commitment fasting vows to the Lord. Our church is having a 21 Day Corporate fast and I really want to push through and enjoy this fast and stay on target. I really need to draw near to the Lord, because my prayer time has reduced, and financial giving as well. Although the peace of the Lord has been sustaining me during a turbulent time. My petition is to draw nearer, so I can trust Him with all!

Thank you for your ministry and faithfulness to the Lord

Kristen, your book was confirmation for this fast. The Lord is defiantly using you to help others bring transformation, healing and restoration to our heart. The book is anointed and filled with God’s presence and spiritual food. As I began to read, I knew this book was holy spirit driven. One thing that touched me was Isaiah 58, which I hang also my fast on. I believe Isaiah 58 is the fast that the Lord will accept, especially in these times. As I am on Day 2 Devotion, Ha! The Lord has been trying to get me to lay down my Isaac, when I saw this, I knew I was on the right path. As I kill the flesh, God has already started to download revelation. I would like to share one, if I may, I believe its a word for now. As I was worshiping, this morning I felt in my spirit, the Lord speak and tell me;” Phil, worship is not about how much time you worship, but the time you spent worshiping Me”
Krsiten, thank you for your faithfulness! I do have a question, How do you usually spread out your meals, as far as times.

Phil, thanks so much for sharing what the Lord has been showing you. Also, as far as frequency of eating on the Daniel Fast, there is no set schedule. Everyone approaches the fast differently. Some people eat regular meals and may even have a snack or two in between. Others might skip a meal to pray. There is no right or wrong way to do it. Ask the Lord to guide you and help you determine what YOU should do. He will give you wisdom!

I just signed up to receive weekly inspiration and will be starting the Daniel fast today. I’ve been in the midst of a major storm within my life for about 6 months now. I’ve been reading and studying scripture consistently and praying often throughout the day. In this storm I find myself wanting to give in and then I find myself weak and fragile. I know that God is with me and that fear, weakness and weeping is directly related to my flesh and not my spirit. My spiritual growth is priority and I am hoping that my time of fasting will strengthen my relationship with God, renew my spirit and mind and help me to learn from from my past by in order to generate the Hope in Christ. God bless you all that are also fasting and who may be reading my comments

Rodney, I’m encouraged by your comments. Even though life hasn’t been easy, you aren’t giving up. You’re giving all to God! May the Lord draw you deeper into His Word and fill you with joy as you grow closer to Him. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:13).

Dear Kristen. Thank you for your lovely response, and I have to agree with you. Water it is then. This whole fast has consumed me in a way that i have never experienced before. It is only day two and i already see wonderful changes in my attitude towards my children. For the first time in ages i managed to have a calm no shouting morning. It feels wonderful. God has put two songs in my heart concerning this fast and i hope you don’t mind me sharing it with your readers. “The power of love by Darlene Zschech” and “All I have is Christ by Sovereign Grace”. The part that gets me every time is “I had no hope, that YOU would own a rebel to YOUR will and if you had not loved me first, i would refuse you still”. I am on our worship team but have always felt i could not measure up. God has already started revealing my refusal to look up to Him,not man for approval and boy have i been convicted..God has called me, many many times, yet i keep refusing Him..oh. But,but, He is still here and waiting with open arms and that is all this fast is about. Getting back or staying closer than before to Our first Love.

Kristen, thank you for this website. I do not ever post anything anymore on line but this place somehow just makes one want to open up. Just as an encouragement to you. God is using you mightily, and He is not yet done. There are more things in store for you and your lovely readers. May His richest blessings consume and overtake you during this special time and right through the end of this year:):)
