Taco Seasoning

July 27, 2010 By Kristen Feola

Taco Seasoning

Taco Seasoning

Taco Seasoning should be a staple on your Daniel Fast. It's featured in many of the recipes on my website. Having a batch on hand before you begin your fast will be a tremendous help, although it doesn't take long to make more when you run out.

I would consider this a fairly mild seasoning. However, each person’s idea of “mild” is different. You could omit the cayenne pepper to be safe. πŸ™‚

Kristen,
I tried making a “taco” with barley and seasoning. It was awful, any suggestion on what to use to complete the filling using the recipe from today for the seasoning?

Yeah, that doesn’t sound too good. Barley just isn’t quite the right texture! I tried making “taco meat” out of cooked lentils this week, and it was pretty good. So that’s an idea.

If you don’t have a nut allergy, walnuts make a great taco meat substitute. Soak them for about an hour and drain off the water. Put them in the food processor with the taco seasoning above and pulse to the right texture. It’s delicious!

I always buy my taco seasoning mild and I recently got a packet from Trader Joes that was waaaay too spicy. What should I omit from this to obtain the effect of ‘mild’ homemade taco seasoning?

Hi, Jane! Thanks for your comment. Sounds like the timing on my post was perfect! Sometimes I need those reminders myself. πŸ™‚

I used my last packet of taco seasoning mix last evening. I don’t know why I haven’t made this homemade mix before. Thanks for posting it and reminding me of the simplicity of making your own!
