Sweet and Spicy Mixed Nuts

Sweet and Spicy Mixed Nuts

This recipe takes the wonderful flavor of nuts to a whole new level. You'll love the combination of a little sweetness and a tad bit of spice. A great snack for the Daniel Fast or any time you need a protein boost.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup raw almonds
  • ½ cup raw pecans
  • ½ cup raw walnut halves
  • 1 tablespoon Date Honey
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon chipotle chile seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Line an 11 x 17-inch baking sheet with parchment paper (or use a silicone mat) and set aside. Put nuts in a large bowl. In a separate smaller bowl, mix Date Honey, water, olive oil, chipotle chile seasoning, and salt. Use a fork or small whisk to combine. Pour over nuts, and stir until well coated.
  • Spread nuts evenly on baking sheet. Bake 1 hour, stirring about halfway through cooking time.
  • Cool and serve. Store in an airtight container.
  • Yield: 6 servings (serving size: about ¼ cup)

Notes

  • Substitute any of the listed nuts with Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, or peanuts.
  • Use red cayenne pepper in place of the chipotle chile seasoning (you may want to decrease the amount a little unless you like super spicy food!).
  • This recipe can easily be doubled.

Can regular raw honey be used in any of the recipes?

Hi, Shelly. No, honey is an added sugar and isn’t a part of the Daniel Fast. Added sugars include agave nectar, honey, brown rice syrup, molasses, maple syrup, raw sugar, table sugar, and artificial sweeteners.

Most grocery stores carry it in the herbs and spices aisle. I hope you can find it!

Is there a recipe for the chipotle spice, or is it ground chipotle’s? I’m so amazed that God has given you an avenue to bless others on how to eat. For a long time I thought that fasting meant starving and bland food. This is the first time that it hasn’t been so tasteless that I found myself thinking on when it was going to end instead of thinking on Christ. Thank you so much for taking away the legalism and mundane meals. God bless you Kristen!

The chipotle seasoning is a spice you can buy in a bottle. Thanks for your comments and encouragement. I’m glad you’ve been blessed by the recipes!

I don’t know if I’ll be able to find raw nuts where I live. (Small town with limited grocery stores.) Would roasted nuts work in this recipe?

Roasted nuts are acceptable, but raw nuts are best. I grew up in a small town, so I understand the challenge of finding certain foods! Besides, God sees your heart. He knows your situation, and I believe He will honor your desire to press in to know Him, either with raw OR roasted nuts. 🙂

I wanted to understand whether it is good to fast for two 2 and regard it as Daniel fast or it suppose to be 21 days.

Thank you

Anytime you set aside your physical hunger because you want to press in with the Lord is a good thing! You can fast for one meal, one day, three days, etc. A typical Daniel Fast is usually 21 days, but it doesn’t have to be. Thanks for your question!
