I see a lot of apple juice, I thought it was strictly only water?

Hi, Jessica. Great question. Water is to be the main beverage on the Daniel Fast. However, you can use 100% unsweetened fruit juices in recipes.

While water is the main beverage on the fast, it’s acceptable to have 100% juice and to use juice in recipes.

Hi! Thanks for your question. Honey (natural or otherwise) is considered an added sugar, so it’s not allowed on the Daniel Fast.

Can you use Coconut sugar as a replacement for “sugar”

Coconut is allowed on the fast. However, added sugar is not. So whether you include coconut sugar on the fast depends upon how you view it — as a fruit product or added sugar. It’s really a matter of personal conviction. Personally, I see it as an added sugar, so I don’t include coconut sugar or syrup in my recipes. If you’re not sure what to do, ask God to give you wisdom as to what YOUR fast should look like.

Sure. The flavor might not be quite as strong, but the dish will still be tasty! Thanks for your question.

Unsweetened means no added sugar. So, 100% apple juice should be acceptable. Check the label to be sure.

Can we use agave nectar? A friend of mine is doing the Daniel Fast as well and said we could but I wasn’t sure. Day 10 of the Daniel Fast! I love it! Thank you!

No added sugars are allowed on the fast, including agave nectar, honey, molasses, etc. You may find some variation on this issue where some people choose to include it. Read my FAQ page for more explanation. Thank you for your question and encouragement!

Pat, are you currently following a nutrition plan prescribed by a physician or dietician? If so, have you consulted with him or her about doing the Daniel Fast? It would be helpful to know what foods you’ve been told to avoid because of your condition.

Unfortunately, no added sugar is allowed. But, here is a recipe for a natural “sweetener” for recipes! Date Honey: You’ll love it!

Hi I am just curious if I can use unsweetened applesauce instead of juice? Will it turn out the same was? I couldn’t find unsweetened apple juice at the store? Thank you for all of the great recipes my husband and I are doing a Daniel fast for the first time and I was a little nervous about the food because my husband has a bean allergy.

I think the applesauce would be a nice substitution. I’m glad you and your husband are doing the fast together. Have you already started? If you don’t already have a copy of my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast, you should get it. 🙂 It would be a big help on your journey. May God bless you both as you hunger for Him!
