Hi, Delores! Great question. You do get a good amount of protein on the fast; it’s just not animal protein. Some of the main sources are nuts, nut butters, beans, lentils, quinoa, seeds, and green peas. You can also have plant-based protein powder (see my blog post about it). I hope this information helps.
Hi, Laura! Clam chowder isn’t Daniel Fast friendly (no animal products, including fish/sea life). Peanut butter is fine, as long as it doesn’t contain added sugar (check ingredients). Smoothies are allowed and encouraged! You can find smoothie recipes here. Also, you might want to check out my blog post, “Protein Powder on the Daniel Fast.”

Didn’t this blog have a roasted red pepper soup? Does anyone still have that recipe?
I was thinking the same thing… I fast twice a year and have always made the roasted red pepper soup and thought it was here. Kristen you should add one 😉
My husband made Corn Chowder last night for dinner. It was so delicious, even my 18 month old baby loved it. We are definitely making it again. I am not sure what are we making tonight, so many good recipes to choose from but will keep you posted, thank you so much for everything, may God bless!
Thank you so much for all the help. I came across your page by chance but I love everything. We started our 21 day Daniel fast today and I know we will have an amazing time trying all these wonderful recipes https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.0.0/svg/1f642.svg May God bless.
I bought your book after i had started fast. I am doing a juice fast however very little juice come out of vegetables. Can i make a puree of vegetables instead and eat as soup?
No. Cream of mushroom soup contains several ingredients that aren’t on the Daniel Fast, including milk and/or cream.

🙂
Hi, Erica! Is it homemade or store-bought? You could probably easily make your own that’s Daniel Fast friendly. Just make sure the noodles are whole grain (brown rice instead of white).
Hi, Patsy! Great question. Grits are not usually whole grain but refined. They’re made from white hominy, which is a form of corn that has had the hull and germ removed (not a whole grain), which means it has been stripped of most of its nutrients. So, technically, grits are not Daniel Fast friendly. 🙁
Grits are white corn and polenta is yellow corn processed the exact same

Hello,
How can I substitute tomato sauce in soup recipes? I have acid reflux and can’t have a lot of tomato based dishes. Would vegetable broth work in say the spinach/artichoke or Black Bean Minestrone soup recipes?
Hi, Ruth! You can print the recipes directly from my website. It might work best to copy and paste in Word. Another option is to get my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast, which has 100 recipes in it. Thanks!
