Notes
- To freeze bananas, remove peels before placing in freezer. Put in a plastic zip-top bag until completely frozen.
- Add Daniel Fast friendly protein powder.
- Make it green! Add 1 cup chopped kale or spinach leaves.
Hi awesome site! I found a protein powder the only concern I had was that IT has natural french vanilla…. What do u think about that?
Vanilla is fine. Just check to make sure the other ingredients are Daniel Fast friendly. Thanks for your question!
Are you able to have cream of wheat.
No, it’s not Daniel Fast friendly. Any wheat products must be whole grain. If you look at the ingredients label for Cream of Wheat, you see it contains WHEAT FARINA, SALT, PARTIALLY DEFATTED WHEAT GERM, GUAR GUM, NATURAL FLAVOR, BHT (TO PRESERVE FRESHNESS). A whole-grain product will say whole wheat, not just wheat farina. Thanks for your question!
My first day on the Daniel fast and I thank you for the advice and guidance you have shared. Please pray for my continued strength and fortitude for Gods help each day in staying faithful to this fast.
Vivienne, I’m so glad to hear you’re doing the Daniel Fast! How are you doing? I see you’re on Day 2. 🙂 May God fill you with His power and peace as you trust in Him. Be sure to get in God’s Word every day for that spiritual nourishment you need. He will be faithful to help you!
Thank you for this amazing site. Just bought the book. I’d been using the fast for over a week and so far love it. My question is this: Is TVP (textured vegetable protein) allowed on the fast? I haven’t seen it mentioned but like it as a meat substitute. What surprises me about this fast, is that I normally have a sweet tooth, but have had no cravings. Not only for sweets but really nothing else. My biggest temptation was when they ordered pizza at work this week and I could smell it. I never had any, though. I stood my grounds. 😀
You’re welcome! Thank you for purchasing my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast. I pray it’s a blessing to you on your 21-day journey! TVP is a soy-based substitute for meat, and as long as all the ingredients in it are Daniel Fast friendly, it is acceptable. Just read the product label to be sure. Oh, and good job on resisting the temptation to eat the pizza at work! 🙂 You relied on the strength of the Lord to help you, and you were victorious! Way to go!
Can you eat or use Greek yogurt on the Daniel fast? Not sure if it is considered dairy….new to this!
Thanks!
No, yogurt is not a part of the fast. No animal or dairy products are allowed. Thanks for checking, though!
This recipe was great!
If you use all the fruits frozen, it will make way more than the 16 0z. When the 4 cups of fruit plus a 1/2 cup of liquid is “whipped” or blended, the volume rises.
I was going to make this in my 16 oz single serve, but I knew it wouldn’t hold it, so I used the larger blender and it was a lot! It came out like soft serve ice cream and was spoonable. After we each had a large bowl of the ice cream, we had 4 small containers left over which we froze.
The flavors were great, the colors beautiful, and texture nice.
No guilt…. was nice too. Thank you God and Kristen.
Great! Thanks for your feedback. I’m so glad you liked the recipe!
We had the other containers of this frozen delight this morning and is was sooo delicious. I am thinking of ways to put these in little disposable cups with a spoon in through the lid, to take to a church event this weekend. One could use the spoon to eat with a spoon, or as a Popsicle on a the spoon.
I don’t have any good Popsicle molds right now, just the pointy cone ones and the popsicles always break when taking them out. I do have some rainbow popsicle sticks, but if the desserts melt too fast, one might want a spoon, and others may prefer a spoon anyways. I do open the can of coconut milk, place in a brand named airtight plastic container and keep it the fridge. I used cold water as well, making the mixture quite firm.
Going to try with pineapple and unsweetened coconut.
Thanks for all the beautiful recipes.
Hi, Anne! I’m so glad you liked the recipe. I love the idea of making Popsicles out of it. How fun!
I just happened to stumble upon your website. It is excellent! Although I am not participating in the Daniel’s fast my boyfriend is and I have been trying my hardest to find some recipes for him. He is doing the fast for 3 weeks and I was so worried I would run out of ideas but this website has helped greatly!
Hi, Gabbie! I’m thankful God led to you my website! I pray it continues to encourage you and your boyfriend. You might also want to get a copy of my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast. It has 100+ Daniel Fast friendly recipes! May the Lord bless you for the help you’re giving your boyfriend with this fast. Maybe next time you’ll join him! 🙂
Hi,
Thank you for the great recipes. I have jst stumbled upon your site and will definitely be using the information on it.
While looking for recipes yesterday (on the net)i stumbled across a site by a church that mentioned herbal tea and fruit juice is allowed as well as small amounts of honey and some peanut and almond butter.
This has just thrown me off course as i do not know what is acceptable and not. My husband and i have been very strict on what we eat for the last 5 days and to find out that we can include the items mentioned above has made us re-evaluate what to eat.
Please help!
Hi! Thank you for your kind words about the website. I pray it continues to be a blessing to you as you seek the Lord! The Daniel Fast is based upon the prophet Daniel’s fasting experiences as recorded in the Bible. In Daniel 1, Daniel chose not to eat the royal food that he was being served and ate only vegetables. Another time (in Daniel 10:2-3) he did not deprived himself of choice food, meat, and wine. Most commentaries believe “choice food” would have been bread and sweets.
The modern-day Daniel Fast is based upon Daniel’s fasting experiences, which involved denying himself certain foods while he sought the Lord in prayer. Scripture gives us some insight (such as in Dan. 10:3) into what he ate and didn’t eat; however, we don’t know specifics. The idea of a partial fast, such as the Daniel Fast, is to eliminate some foods while allowing others. Therefore, you will find some variation with food allowed on the fast. My Food Guidelines should help answer your food questions. I advise people who are trying to decide what to do to consider Paul’s words in Romans 14:14 (NLT): “I know and am convinced on the authority of the Lord Jesus that no food, in and of itself, is wrong to eat. But if someone believes it is wrong, then for that person it is wrong.” Therefore, if you feel a strong conviction about a certain food, you should abstain from it. If not, then I believe it becomes a matter of personal preference.
Try not to get too hung up on what you should and shouldn’t eat. Remember, the most important part of the fast is that you deny yourself physically so that you may seek the Lord in prayer and grow closer to Him. Your particular fast may look a little different than someone else’s, but that’s ok. Some people may need to be stricter than others in their food choices so that their fast is a sacrifice for them. If you drink herbal tea every day and don’t feel as if you’d be fasting by having it, then you might want to eliminate tea during your Daniel Fast as part of your sacrifice. I hope this helps answer your question. May God bless you richly as you press on to know Him!
Thank you for the feedback.
My understanding of the fast was that we should “do as Daniel did”. Ihave seen so many variations of the fast that have made it more complex than needed.
Thank you for your insight and wise words.
hi. I thought the only thing allowed for DRINKING on the daniel fast is water? did i miss something? i thought the restriction was similar to the one about using say pure maple syrup in a recipe, but not as a sweetener. Please advise. Thank you.
I ‘discovered’ your site today and i love it. I’ll be sharing with everyone! Thank you for your hard work on this site.
Yes, water is to be the main beverage on the fast. Smoothies and fresh juices are allowed as meals or supplements. I’m not sure what you are referring to about the maple syrup. Maple syrup is a form of added sugar and is NOT a part of the Daniel Fast (along with honey, agave nectar, molasses, sugar, etc.). Thank you for your kind words about the site, and I pray it continues to be a blessing to you!
You posted a smoothie that used spinach and now I can’t find it. Would you please send me that recipe?
Also wondering if popcorn is okay.
You can find my smoothie recipes here. Yes, popcorn is allowed as long you don’t use butter! 🙂 The best way is to pop it yourself, as microwave brands are not usually Daniel Fast friendly (contain ingredients not allowed on the fast).
Popcorn popped in coconut oil is AMAZING. You won’t even want to add butter or salt. I use pure Cold-Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil and the kids love it too.
Hi,
Do you know if we can use almond milk on the Daniel Fast?
Please refer to my Food Guidelines page.
Thanks
For the coconut milk, would that be like the Almond Breeze type?
No. That’s a great question, though. This is the type of product you need: http://www.thaikitchen.com/products/coconut-milk/coconut-milk.aspx.
