January 2022 Daniel Fast Testimonies

February 27, 2022 By Kristen Feola

Pray, Wait, Trust

The 11th annual online Daniel Fast was held January 2-22, 2022. This year’s theme was “Pray, Wait, Trust.” Even though the 21-day has ended, we continue pray to the Lord, wait on his timing, and trust in his ways.

Following are a few testimonies from believers who completed the fast. I hope these examples of God’s faithfulness encourage you as you seek him in 2022:

“Kristen, your book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast, was such a blessing! This was my first successful attempt at trying the Daniel Fast. I went into this with many doubts. During the fast, I sought guidance regarding my education and career choices because I wanted God’s will to be done. On day 20 of my Daniel Fast, I was offered an internship for my master’s degree AND a job opportunity regarding my completed bachelor’s degree. I was bewildered! This came out of nowhere. God answered me! Praise to Him forever! Thank you for the great guide regarding the Daniel Fast. It truly helped!” – Dylan

“I loved this journey SO MUCH that I will continue on past the 21 days!” – Jodye

“This was my first time doing the Daniel Fast, and it was a great experience. I can’t believe l did it! God is amazing! On day 3, l received financial blessings that l didn’t expect but didn’t realize it until day 15 when l got the urge to check my account. Praise God!  I intend to make fasting and prayer my lifestyle.” – Gigi

“I just had to share with you that I did the Daniel Fast, and it was incredible! The Scriptures you chose and the prayers were just perfect. They brought me back into a time of quiet worship and prayer that I’d fallen out of for a few weeks. It was so timely and necessary for me to have another guide to keep me in the Word. Also, on a side note, I lost 15 pounds doing this fast (I combined it with an 8-hour fast throughout the day) and am feeling physically better than I have in a long time. The plan is to continue with all of this and keep on track. Thank you so much for doing this fast. It’s absolutely amazing and God-honoring.”  – Jamie

“I have been so blessed by your book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast. I have done the Daniel Fast several times but never read your book before this year. I can see why my soul’s enemy was keeping me from reading it! Your encouragement, ideas and experience were tools of immense blessing to my mind, body, and soul. I look forward to doing more fasting throughout the year as cleansing tune-ups. THANK YOU!” – Lourdes

“The fast was hard, but I now see God’s purpose and why it was needed. The Lord broke strongholds. Some I saw, and some I didn’t even know existed. God has blessed me beyond expectation, and it’s only the beginning! God is great!” – Amber

Lent 2022

February 27, 2022 By Kristen Feola

Lent 2022

Lent is a 40-day* commitment to prayer and fasting that’s observed in the six weeks leading up to Easter. This year, the Lenten Fast starts on Ash Wednesday, March 2, and ends on Thursday, April 14.

A person who participates in Lent can choose to fast in a variety of ways, and one option is to do a Daniel Fast.  Following are a a few resources that will encourage you:

  • Follow my 40-day Prayer Guide.
  • Invest in a devotional book to guide your prayer time.
  • Print out a copy of my  Holy Week Prayer Guide and use it the week before Easter.

For more information about the Daniel Fast, visit About the Daniel Fast.

*Note: Ash Wednesday to Holy Thursday is technically 44 days; however, the number of days for penance and fasting before Easter is still 40: 44 days minus six Sundays equals 38, plus Good Friday and Holy Saturday equals 40.

The Daniel Fast and Diabetes

If you’re considering doing the Daniel Fast and you have diabetes, you probably have questions. Lots of them. In this blog post, I’ll address many of people’s common concerns. Also, be sure to listen to the podcast I did with Davis Knight of Diabetic SAVVY as you prepare to set out on this adventure known as the Daniel Fast.

Diabetic SAVVY podcast
The Daniel Fast: A Deep Dive Conversation with Kristen Feola (Diabetic SAVVY podcast)

What is the Daniel Fast?
The Daniel Fast is a partial fast, which means that you eat some foods while restricting others. The fast is typically 21 days and the purpose is to devote time to the Lord in prayer. Participating in the Daniel Fast if often a life-changing experience. Many people experience transformation spiritually and physically. (Although some people do lose weight as they make healthier food choices on this fast, it is not a diet.)

You may be wondering, Where did the Daniel Fast originate? Well, with the prophet Daniel, of course. The Bible gives us some insight (such as in Dan. 10:3) into what Daniel ate and didn’t eat; however, we don’t know his complete menu. On one occasion, Daniel was greatly concerned for his people and sought the Lord’s wisdom during a time of prayer and fasting:

“At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips (Dan. 10:2-3).

Most commentaries believe “choice food” would have been bread and sweets. The Message paraphrase sums up Daniel’s eating habits during that time: “I ate only plain and simple food.”

You’ll find some variation in the specific guidelines for the modern-day Daniel Fast, as far as what foods are included and which ones are restricted. The intention of the modern-day Daniel Fast is not to duplicate exactly what Daniel did but the spirit in which he did it. Daniel’s passion for the Lord caused him to hunger and thirst more for spiritual food than for physical food, which should be the desire of anyone choosing to participate in this type of fast.

Some people have a tendency to get too focused on the food portion of the fast. However, the guidelines are given to help you form boundaries, not to push you into legalism. Your fast may look a little different than someone else’s, and that’s fine. The most important part of the Daniel Fast is that you deny yourself physically so that you may seek the Lord in prayer and grow closer to Him.

Is it safe for me to do the Daniel Fast as a diabetic?
The Daniel Fast is an extremely healthy way of eating, and many people with diabetes have done the fast with success. One of the benefits of fast is the regular intake of nutrient-dense foods, which keeps your blood sugar stable. However, you’re certainly free to modify the fast if you need to do so according to the specific needs of your body. I would recommend focusing on low-glycemic foods (Daniel Fast friendly ones, of course) and avoiding foods that are problematic. If you have concerns about specific foods, consult a nutritionist or doctor.

What foods can I have?
The best part about the Daniel Fast is that you can eat, unlike a water or liquid fast. For a list of foods that are Daniel Fast friendly and those foods that should be avoided, see my Daniel Fast Food List.

Will I get enough protein?
Animal products aren’t the only foods that contain high amounts of protein. Beans, lentils, quinoa, nuts, seeds, asparagus, broccoli, kale, spinach, and sprouts are good sources of this important nutrient as well. Another option is to use plant-based protein powder on your Daniel Fast. (Remember, since animal products aren’t allowed, protein powder that contains whey is not acceptable.)

Can I take my medication?
Yes, you should continue taking your medicine as prescribed. If you have any questions or concerns, consult your physician.

Is it OK to modify the food guidelines?
You don’t have to follow the food guidelines exactly to get the physical and spiritual benefits of the fast. God will honor whatever sacrifices you can make.

Do you have testimonies from diabetics who have done the Daniel Fast successfully?
I sure do! Below are three testimonies from individuals who experienced physical and spiritual transformation as a result of their three-week journey.

“I saw my blood sugar drop to normal. It had been running in the 170s in AM, (90-120 is normal, 120-140 for diabetics). While I was on the Daniel Fast, my blood sugar was in the 130-140 range. Praise God! This happened two years ago as well!” – Alice (2021)

“My insulin was cut in half. Fasting blood sugar was in 120s. Afternoon blood sugars 80s to 90s. I also lost 23 pounds, four inches in my waist and five in my hips. The swelling in my liver and stomach has gone down. I still have a long way to go on my journey. However, I am happy with my results and the closeness it has brought with me and the Lord.” – Cynthia (2021)

“This was the first time my girlfriend Ruth and I did the Daniel Fast, and it was amazing. I was diagnosed as a diabetic in 2013. My blood sugar stays in the range of 200-340 the majority of the time. During the fast, it was around 200. After the 21 days, my blood sugar has been 122-140!” – Guain (2016)

January 2021 Daniel Fast Testimonies

January 25, 2021 By Kristen Feola

Jan 2021 DF Testimonies

After the unexpected challenges of COVID in 2020, more believers than ever joined the January Ultimate Daniel Fast. Men and women around the world, desperate for new hope, new possibilities, and a new perspective, came together to fast and pray.

The theme for the 10th annual fast was “Miracles in the Making,” based upon Psalm 77:14: “You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.”

During the 21-day fast, we saw the Lord move in mighty ways. Favor was granted, jobs were provided, people received healing, marriages were restored, and family members were saved. That’s just the beginning, too. More miracles are in the making!

Saturday, January 23, was the last day of the fast. However, we’ll continue to persevere in prayer as we trust God to answer in his way and in his timing. Following are a few testimonies from the January 2021 Daniel Fast:

“Thank you, Kristen, for leading the fast and for the encouraging words from you and your husband in the morning videos. Thanks also for the devotional, Miracles in the Making. I’m certain that the Daniel Fast will continue to be a part of my journey at the beginning of every year.” – Cindy

“I thank God for giving you this vision of the Daniel Fast. What a way to start a year!” – Londie

“I have felt a smothering weight since the pandemic began and then my father died in the fall (not COVID), but COVID protocols made us postpone his celebration until sometime this summer. All of a sudden, on Saturday as I ended my fast, I began to have renewed energy and interest for various projects. I praise God for lifting this shroud of darkness.” – Sarah

“I’ve done the fast with you a few times, and this year it was sorely needed!  Like many other people, 2020 took a rough toll on me. I sank into isolation and depression to the point I became very concerned about my health. I woke up the morning of day 1 and was convicted to not only fast from food/drink, but to fast from TV, Facebook, and games on my phone. So, I jumped in with both feet! My BP has gone from 164/99 to 102/60, my resting HR has gone from 82 to the 50s, and I lost 13 pounds. Spiritually, I am praying consistently throughout the day, have much more time to work on my recovery and understand why I have numbed myself with food my whole life, am making church a priority again. My daughter and I are also growing closer. Thank you for your heart for God and willingness to listen to him!  I love the fast and love the videos of you and your husband! You have brought a sense of community and support to this 57-year-old single mom who, for the majority of the last year, has spent most of her time home alone with her two fur babies, working too many hours, and making unhealthy choices. That has definitely changed with the fast, and I am certain 2021 will be a much better year! I’ll be back for 2022!” – Diane

“Thank you for the prayer points, daily videos, and just everything that your site provides.” – Litia

“I have a hard time doing a regular fast because it makes me feel sick from not eating, but I had heard of the Daniel Fast and thought I would look it up. Right away, I came upon your website. I don’t think it was a coincidence that our loving Heavenly Father directed me to your site. I’m so grateful for this opportunity to seek the Lord, to devote our lives to Him, to lift His people up in prayer, to listen to His voice, and to praise His Holy name. I’m so thankful for all you are doing Kristen. God promises to bring good out of all things, and He is.” – Lisa

“Thank you for your videos. I decided to do the Daniel Fast for the first time this year. Your website, videos, and recipes really helped me know what to do and expect throughout the fast, and I was strengthened and encouraged by the daily videos. Thanks for sharing this resource and may God continue to richly bless you, your husband, and your family.” – Victor

“I’ve been working as a contractor for five years, making less than $40,000 a year. I have a BS and MS in CIS. I’ve applied and interviewed for the SAME position three times. While on the Daniel Fast, God answered, and I got the job. Now, I’m making more money than I’ve ever made in my life.” – Angie

“Thank you for all you have helped with these last 21+ days.” – Barrie

“Once again, I saw my blood sugar drop to normal. It had been running in the 170s in AM, (90-120 is normal, 120-140 for diabetics). While I was on the Daniel Fast, my blood sugar was in the 130-140 range. Praise God! This happened two years ago as well!” – Alice

“I enjoyed your daily videos and prayer points, not to mention the delicious recipes. Thanks so much, and may God continue to bless you abundantly!” – Marie

“Thank you, Kristen. You have no idea what your book material and fasting time mean to me. It has been amazing! I know all the work that this project involves, so thanks!” – Enriqueta

“Thank you again for walking so many people through this fast and for your years of dedication.” – Heidi

“This fasting time not only was amazing spiritually, but also my family rediscovered my cooking skills with Kristen‘s recipes.” – Veronica

“This is the fifth year that I’ve followed your Daniel Fast postings. The first year I purchased The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast, and I love most of the recipes. Thanks so much for this year’s devotional, prayer points, and the Facebook forum. Each of those is an encouragement to continue the fast, who to pray for, and scriptures for keep me focused on Jesus. The Ultimate Daniel Fast keeps getting better each year! Praying God’s richest blessings on you and your ministry.” – Margi

“Kristen, thank you for leading us on the Daniel Fast. It has made a huge difference in my spiritual life. No doubt I will join the next fast.” – Londy

“This fast has been an immense blessing to me on so many levels! Thank you for hosting such a wonderful event.” – Robin

“The Lord provided and answered so many prayers! I’m so grateful for Kristen and Justin Feola for the daily videos and devotions! What a true blessing! The best is yet to come! May we serve the Lord Jesus always and give God all the glory!” – MaryAnn

“God has been so good. I enjoyed every moment of the fast and have had so many new and exciting experiences with the Holy Spirit. My intention is to pursue God more and chase after Him. I’ve fallen in love with Him all over again and I never want it to end. Thank you, Lord, for your faithfulness that’s new morning by morning.” – Hshaana

“Thank you so much for your prayers and support during this journey. This was my first year participating in the Daniel Fast, and my time with you both during the videos was such a blessing. I will miss you both.” – Stephanie

“I like to do the fast yearly, and every year God amazes me. He made a way when I thought there was no way. I bought my first house on January 8th! I have been waiting five years. All glory to God.” – Monica

“Thank you for hosting this great fast, Kristen. Thank you, Justin, for helping and supporting Kristen and us with the devotionals, videos, recipes, and Facebook Group! I was blessed by it all and by how God helped me to be more disciplined, reflective, introspective, and open to purging. I’m trusting God to continue to equip me to do all HE needs me to accomplish for His glory!” – Chanda

“My journey was an awesome experience. God has answered some of my prayers, and I know he will to answer the others in due time. I will continue with more prayer and devotions throughout the year. A special thank you to Kristen and Justin. It was such a privilege to have you in my home during the videos. Thank you for the encouragement and for uplifting me during the 21 days. May God bless and uphold you in your ministry.” – Nams

“I did the January Daniel Fast because I wanted to get closer to God and start out the New Year with him. God has blessed me with your book and videos. I’ve ordered three more books for my family members and will be starting the Daniel Fast again for Lent. This time, my husband, my dad, and my mom will be joining me. What a blessing! Thank you.” – Gloria

“Thanks so much. See you next year!” – Aaron

Divine Interruption

July 6, 2020 By Kristen Feola

Divine Interruption

As I was walking out of church yesterday, a friend asked, “What are you and Justin doing this afternoon?” I told her we didn’t have much going on, so we’d probably just relax. A trip to urgent care definitely wasn’t part of our plan.

Shortly after I got home from church, I went into our shed to get birdseed for the little feathered friends who frequently visit our backyard. After filling up their feeder, I went back into the shed to put away the bag of seed. As I walked out and started to shut the door, I felt an intense blow to my right heel, so sharp that I doubled over in pain. My first thought was I’m going to have a massive, ugly black bruise (I bruise easily). I didn’t know what hit me, but I assumed it was one of the garden tools propped up in the corner against a shelf.

Turns out, it was an ax that fell from the wall. As I hobbled into the house, crying, my husband ran toward me to find out what had happened. When he looked at my sliced ankle and saw blood, along with the white of my Achilles tendon, he said, “Sit down! We’re going to the emergency room!”

I suggested driving to urgent care instead because 1) it was closer, and 2) it would probably be much quicker than a five-hour wait in the ER. I’m glad we made that choice because a doctor came to examine me within five minutes of our arrival. Thankfully, the laceration in my ankle wasn’t deep enough to cut the tendon, so surgery wasn’t needed, only six staples and five sutures.

I’m sad that I won’t be able to walk my dog, ride my bike, or go rock climbing for about two weeks. But I’m trusting God to help me. I’m leaning on his strength. Just this morning, I prayed, “Lord, I surrender to you.” I want God to have his way in me (just like our January 2020 Daniel Fast theme). Rather than wallow in self-pity, I’m determined to embrace this down time.

Did God cause my injury? No. Did he allow it? Yes, I believe he did. Sometimes our loving Father permits pain–not as punishment, but to redirect us or to force us to rest. In my case, it’s most likely both.

Maybe you’ve never been attacked by an ax, but I’m positive you’ve blindsided by an unexpected event. You know what it feels like when your plans are interrupted or when the circumstances of your life don’t turn out quite as you’d hoped.

Today, if you’re facing a painful trial–whether physical, relational, financial, or spiritual–I want to encourage you to draw near to God. He’ll give you strength. He’ll provide everything you need. He’ll fill your heart with hope so you don’t fall into despair.

I told my neighbor earlier today, “I’m so glad this pain is temporary.” And it’s true:

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Cor. 4:17-18).

When hard times come, the only way to experience joy and peace is to look to God and remember his promises. If we focus on him instead of our pain, then we’ll have victory in the unexpected events that come our way.

Spiritually Strong 6-Week Bible Study and Workout Program

How to Prepare for the Daniel Fast
Spiritually Strong by Kristen Feola

Two places I miss going during this time of COVID-19 quarantine are church and the gym. Even though I’m thankful for virtual worship services, it’s not the same as gathering with believers and lifting our voices together to the Lord. As far as my exercise routine, I’m trying to be consistent and creative. My desire right now is to make the most of this unexpected situation so I don’t get out of shape spiritually or physically. If that’s your goal as well, I’d like to encourage you with a resource that can help.

In 2015, I wrote Spiritually Strong: The Ultimate 6-Week Guide to Building Your Body and Soul. This book is perfect for this time of sheltering at home because it includes a Bible study and a workout program. The exercises in the book can be done with only your body weight (although if you have dumbbells or other exercise equipment, that’s great; you can increase your intensity). Also, a bonus feature I provide on my website is a list of exercise instruction videos so you can learn how to perform the movements properly and avoid injury.

Recruit a few friends to go through Spiritually Strong with you. Even if you can’t meet in person to discuss the book, you can always share insights on a Facetime or Zoom call. It’s a great way to encourage each other and provide accountability.

Take advantage of this unique time. It’s an opportunity to learn something new and to honor God by taking care of your body.

January 2020 Daniel Fast Testimonies

January 2020 Daniel Fast Testimonies

Every January since 2012, I’ve led an online Daniel Fast during the first three weeks of January. It’s always an exciting, powerful time as believers from all across the world join together to seek the Lord through prayer and fasting.

This year, men and women from 20 different countries and 45 states participated in the January 2020 Daniel Fast, which was held January 5-25, 2020. Our theme for the fast was “Have Your Way,” based upon Luke 22:42: “Not my will, but yours be done.” We focused on surrendering to the Lord and trusting him with every part of our lives.

Everyone who registered for the online fast received weekly emails and daily videos of encouragement and support. Many fast participants also chose to use my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast, to make their experience more effective.

Many who fasted experienced breakthrough. Others are still waiting on the Lord for answers to prayer. But, all of us were recipients of God’s kindness and faithfulness on our 21-day journey. Following are a few testimonies from fast participants:

“This was my very first Daniel Fast. I’m SO thankful God invited me to do it and to be able to participate with you. I looked forward to your emails and videos every single day. Your book, recipes, and tips were spot on. The fast was such a gift and incredible way to kick off 2020. God has shown up and off, and I know this is just the beginning.” — Amy

“Mere words cannot truly express how grateful I am. You provided so much encouragement each day with prayer points and Scripture, messages, testimonials, meal suggestions, recipes, and a daily video. I really enjoyed the daily videos. It was an added bonus to have you and your husband, Justin, in the videos, which several of them were “laugh out loud” funny. I just appreciated how genuine and true you both are.” – Argelene

“This Daniel Fast has been such a blessing for my fiancée and me. During this time of engagement and wedding planning, the fast was a great reminder to fully surrender to the Lord, to embrace his perfect peace and wait on his timing. Thank you, Kristen and Justin!” – Christopher

“God has done a miracle in my life. On Day 14, our prayer point was to pray for all who are fasting. That day I was walking towards a store to buy something. I looked to the right and then to the left to make sure it was safe to cross. When I stepped forward, I was hit by a minivan! I felt my body fly, and then my head bounced off the ground. All I could hear was myself saying, “Jesus! Jesus! Lord, help me!” I didn’t lose consciousness, but I had a terrible headache, along with cuts and bruises. I was also very confused. Looking back, I know God was with me and looking after me. I cannot thank God enough for saving my life. This is the power of praying for one another.” – Leila

“One of the best decisions I made before starting the fast is finding and joining you on this journey. My mom and I tried the fast for the first time last year, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it this year because of the guidance from you. I woke up at 4 A.M. some mornings, excited to watch the video and read the devotional portion. I plan to record all of the inspirational quotes on index cards for my desk at work. I just want to tell you and Justin thanks for taking the time to help me on this journey. I’m going to miss you!” – Constance

“Thank you for the Ultimate Daniel Fast! I’m participating, learning, and growing in my Christian walk.  I appreciate all you have done and are doing to spur me along on this journey. From the insightful daily devotionals, special encouraging videos, delicious recipes, and inspirational music, I’m in awe of all the resources you provide to keep me in the Word and on track. I’m grateful for you and thank you from the bottom of my heart. May God bless you as you faithfully serve and minister to others.” – Susan

“I really learned a lot through this fast. I knew I was supposed to do it, and I have never been successful in the past. But this time I was. What I desired was to hear from the Lord in a new way, and I am.” – Judy

“Thank you for providing all these resources. I looked forward to my daily emails and video, and the recipes have been amazing. Your book was such a great guideline and resource, which made my very first Daniel Fast simple to follow. The “Have Your Way” theme was perfect as I was in the process of a big decision. I felt the tug to take the next step but was praying for complete clarity. I took the step and feel peace about it. Amen.” – Peggy

“My wife and I completed the fast, during which our fervent prayer request was for confirmation of a mission trip to Zambia. I’m no longer young, so health is an issue when obtaining travel insurance. On Day 21, we had confirmation from the arranging organization that insurance cover will be in place to enable both of us to travel to Zambia for two weeks. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! See you next year!” – Peter

“Thank you so much for the guidance and the insight into the Word and prayer. I was blessed throughout the fast, and I saw the hand of God work in great ways. The day we were guided to pray for our church was the same day I had a prayer meeting at my house to pray for my church but that had been scheduled days before. I shared the prayer points and the verses. On three different occasions, I used the verses you provided to encourage people who needed them on the same day. This was probably my fifth Daniel Fast, and I look forward to sharing again.” – Paulette

“This was the third time I’ve begun the New Year with the January Daniel Fast, and it just sets my year off right. I prayed specifically that God would limit my hunger and cravings and minimize my side effects the first few days (I always get severe headaches from coffee and sugar withdrawals). He came through as always. My headaches weren’t terrible and only lasted two days. Thank you for doing this each year. Your ministry is a blessing to others.” – Kristi

“Thank you for this wonderful journey.” – Angelica

“I felt God helping me like never before with the fast. Having a prayer partner (an older lady from my church) was such a blessing! Even though Week 1 had spiritual battles and emotional challenges, it went pretty quick, and God was triumphant through everything.” – Oliva

“I prayed that the LORD would set me free from fear of rejection. God has answered my prayer by showing me I need to forgive in order to move forward. I didn’t realize that the inability to overcome fear of rejection was associated with my inability to forgive those who have rejected me in the past. It wasn’t what I expected, but it was what I needed. I’m going to make a point to continue to ask for God to help me to forgive, so I can move forward into the purpose he has for me. I’m so glad I participated in this fast and am excited to see what the LORD has in store!” – Jenna

“I thank God for you and your ministry. I was truly blessed both spiritually and physically during the fast.” – Saundra

“I have been struggling since I retired and have been thinking about going back to work. Yet, every interview has ended with, “No, thank you.” During the fast, I took the message of surrender to heart, and said, “I surrender this to you, LORD. If you want me to go back to work, you can open the door.” I also surrendered my food cravings. I’ve lost eight pounds and have taken three inches off my waistline, wearing jeans I haven’t worn in several years. So, thank you for your dedication and encouragement. It was really helpful, and I appreciate it. See you next year!” – Rick

“I’m starting a grooming business from scratch but don’t have much equipment or materials. Recently, I wrote a letter to a manufacturer to see if they could donate some grooming equipment. On Day 20 of the fast, I received a care package with the tools I need! I believe this is a result of my Daniel Fast 2020.” – Seary

“This January was my fourth fast. The first year I bought your book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast. I also subscribed to your emails, which was a tremendous help, and purchased your Spiritually Strong book. The second year, I used your resources again and loved it. However, the third year I didn’t. I had God and friends and that was all I needed. But, this year I came back home. I missed your smiling face and your daily encouragement. Even though the videos were short, they were just what I needed to hear and see. It really does make a difference not only to read but to see a live person helping you along the way. Thank you, Kristen. God put you in our lives, and I’m thankful for all you do.” – Marie

“I’m thankful I did the Daniel Fast for the first time with my daughter (her first time too). I feel great, and, most importantly, I know God is on his time, and he will answer my prayers. God bless you, and thank you for your words of encouragement every day and for your delicious recipes.” – Wendy

“I wanted to say thank you for hosting the Daniel Fast again this year. I have been using your guidance in the fast for four or five years now. I really look forward to starting my year in prayer and fasting. Your videos and words are great guides and great reminders on how to connect better with Jesus, our spouse, our friends, our families, and others. I have come out of these past 21 days feeling I have better relationships and more focus on God’s Word. The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast has been an excellent resource for me as well. Great messages and tasty recipes!” – Rob

“We decided to do the fast this year as a family. Usually, just my husband and I do the fast in January. This year both of our daughters wanted to join (in a modified form). The key thing we wanted to do as a family was carve out time each evening to read the Ultimate Daniel Fast daily devotional and Scriptures. Well, it was great! Each night we would take turns reading and then spend a few minutes discussing what we could take away from the reading and how we could apply it. Thanks for all the support you provided during this fast through your daily messages.” – Bridget

“Praise God for my improved health! One of the things on my Daniel Fast was to become for spiritually, mentally, and physically healthy. It’s already happening. I’m going to continue to follow many (not all, LOL) of the Daniel Fast guidelines to continue my improved health. I thank God for you and Justin. You just don’t know how much your daily videos and Scriptures meant to us.” – Brenda

“Thank you so much, Kristen. Thanks to you and your hubby for keeping me on track and allowing me to share what I’m doing with others, especially the message of how God blesses our sacrifice when we turn to him. Blessings in 2020 to you and your family!  Also, I’m a two-year breast cancer victor. I don’t say survivor, because in him I’m not just surviving, I’m thriving in victory!” – Alice

“This was my very first Daniel Fast, and I can assure it was an awesome experience. It was so difficult, hard, soul searching but absolutely awesome and so very rewarding. The January fast is something I will definitely do again. I have already seen the miracles happening in my life and household.” – Imelda

Even though our 21-day journey has officially come to an end, our prayers will continue to make an impact. God is still at work in us and through us. We give him all the glory for the great things he has done and look forward to even more blessings throughout the year!

January 2020 Daniel Fast

January 2020 Daniel Fast

Surrender isn’t a warm and fuzzy concept, and it’s certainly not a word that brings a smile to your face. In fact, the very thought of giving up our will goes against human nature. If given the choice, most of us would much rather be in charge and make our own decisions. But in order to follow Christ, we must choose a different path—one that releases the desire to control and trusts God to direct our steps.

You have the opportunity to do just that—to surrender everything to God—by joining the January 2020 Daniel Fast. The annual event will be held January 5-25, and the theme is “Have Your Way,” based upon Luke 22:42:

“Not my will, but yours be done.”

The Daniel Fast is a unique opportunity for you to set aside your agenda and seek God through focused prayer. When you commit to the January 2020 Daniel Fast, you’ll receive resources to help you, including daily emails, devotions, videos, and recipes. Also, keep in mind, you won’t be fasting alone. I’ll be joining you, along with thousands of believers from around the world. But, most of all, your loving Father in heaven will be right beside you, providing everything you need for your 21-day journey.

Decide now to give God the first three weeks of January. Let the Lord have his way in your life, not only in 2020 but also in the days, months, years, and decades to come.

Registration for the January 202 Daniel Fast has ended. However, you can purchase the 21 daily emails and videos to use any time throughout the year (see payment options to the right).

Matters of the Heart

July 22, 2019 By Kristen Feola

Heart on a Leaf“What you say flows from what is in your heart” (Luke 6:45 NLT).

Have you ever said something you regret? I have – many times. In fact, I did yesterday. I was disrespectful, unkind, and just plain rude to my husband. Earlier in the day, I had thanked God for Justin and prayed for him, but a few hours later, I assaulted him with my words.

As soon as the poison was released from my lips, I knew I’d made a terrible mistake.

There was no sense of victory as I’d hoped. I didn’t feel as if I’d “won” the argument. Instead, I was disgusted and saddened by my behavior.

Where did all those damaging words come from? God’s Word says, “The things that come out of the mouth come from the heart (Matthew 15:18).” Anger and bitterness were swirling around inside of me, and our conversation provided the opportunity for those emotions to surface. Once they were red-hot and at a boil, they spewed forth out of my mouth, deeply wounding the one I love the most.

How can we keep our hearts clean and undefiled? How do we avoid damaging others with our careless words? Proverbs 4:23 gives us the answer:

“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”

We guard our hearts by reading the Bible and obeying it. Instead of allowing sinful thoughts to remain unchecked, we confess them to the Lord. We allow his love, joy, and peace to replace the negative attitudes which are festering inside us.

If you fail to protect the condition of your heart and go too far with your words, God invites you to confess our failure to him. Once you do, you don’t need to wallow in guilt or punish yourself with self-loathing. You’re forgiven, and the blood of Jesus makes you clean. However, you do need to go to the person you’ve hurt and restore the relationship.

Ask the Lord right now if there are any sinful attitudes in your heart that need to be laid on the altar. If so, leave them there, and speak life to those you love today.

Saved

July 15, 2019 By Kristen Feola

Saved

“Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved” (Romans 10:13).

I was seven years old. It was a Sunday morning, and I stood at the back pew of Calvary Baptist Church in Butler, Missouri. As the preacher invited people to accept Jesus, I sensed a tugging at my heart. I knew God was speaking to me. Even though I wanted to go forward, I didn’t. Instead of walking to the front of the church, I went downstairs to the basement. My mother followed me.

“What’s wrong?” she asked. I told her my stomach hurt because it did. I was nervous and scared. I can’t recall exactly what my mom said, but her words calmed me down. After a few minutes, she and I went back into the service, and I walked up the aisle to the pastor.

Brother Green and I knelt by the altar, and he shared Bible verses with me, including Romans 10:9-10, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (KJV).” The truth of the gospel penetrated my soul. I needed Jesus. I confessed my sin to God and asked Jesus to come into my life. On June 3, 1979, God gloriously saved me!

Decades later, I’m still overwhelmed by God’s great love. That he would send his Son to die for me is unimaginable! That he would choose me before the creation of the world to be his child is incomprehensible! As long as I live, I’ll never be able to grasp the full extent of his affection for me.

Have you met the Lord and been saved by grace? If so, then praise him! Thank God for what he has done, and share your story with others. If you’ve not yet accepted God’s gift of salvation, I urge you to open your heart to him. He loves you more than you can understand. You don’t have to do anything but ask. The Lord is waiting for you to come to him. Just believe and receive. . . and be saved.

Note:
According to the Bible, if you want to become a follower of Christ, you need to:

A – Admit that you are a sinner in need of God’s grace.
B – Believe that Jesus came to this earth as the Son of God, lived a perfect life, died for your sins, and rose again to give you eternal life.
C – Confess your sins to God and receive his forgiveness.

Following is a sample prayer for salvation. Of course, you should use your own words to talk to God, but this prayer might help guide you:

“God, I acknowledge that I’m a sinner in need of your forgiveness. I’m sorry for the life I’ve lived. I repent of my sin (turn away from it) and choose to follow you.

Your Word says in Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).”

I believe you sent your Son, Jesus, to die in my place. I believe Jesus paid the penalty for my sin and that he rose from the dead on the third day.

Today, God, I accept your gift of salvation. I declare that Jesus is now my Savior and Lord of my life. Thank you for saving me. Thank you for making a way for me to have a personal relationship with you. I want all that I do to bring glory to you. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.”

Get Out of the Boat

July 8, 2019 By Kristen Feola

boat on shore
Peter was exhausted. He and the other disciples had spent all day with Jesus. They had ministered for hours to the crowds of people who followed them. When it began to get late, Jesus sent the disciples off in a boat so they could get some rest. Jesus stayed behind to pray.

That night the wind picked up and began tossing the boat back and forth on the water. The waves made it hard for the disciples to row. Jesus saw their struggle and went out to them by walking on the water. When the disciples saw him, they were terrified. He looked like a ghost. But, Jesus told them, “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid” (Matt. 14:27).

Peter, the bold leader that he was, said, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water (14:28).” Jesus said, “Come,” and Peter got down out of the boat. He took a huge step of faith by putting his feet in the water and started walking toward the Lord.

What Peter did makes absolutely no sense. People don’t walk on water! That just doesn’t happen. But, as we’re reminded in Luke 18:27:

“What is impossible with men is possible with God.”

Sometimes we don’t understand what God is doing or asks us to do. We just don’t see how it can happen. It doesn’t make sense, and we can’t figure it out. But, you know what? We don’t have to understand. All we need to do is to trust in the Lord, focus on his promises, and find peace in his Presence.

In order for Peter to walk on the water, he had to get out of the boat. He had to cast all doubt and fear aside and keep his eyes on Jesus. As long as he did, Peter lived in the supernatural. He experienced God’s power working in his life. Instead of being paralyzed by fear like the rest of the disciples, Peter walked in faith.

Jesus calls out to each of us, “Come.” What he is calling you to do may be different than what he’s placing on my heart. But, the invitation is still the same—to trust in him—no matter what our circumstances are, no matter what everyone else is doing, no matter what obstacles are in front of you, and no matter how much you’re afraid.

I want to be like Peter. I choose today to put my feet into the water and take steps toward what God wants me to do. What about you? Will you get out of the boat?

Love Your Enemies

February 21, 2019 By Kristen Feola

Love

When Jesus said in Matthew 5:44, “Love your enemies,” who exactly did he mean? In elementary school, the enemy is the big, mean bully who picks on other kids. In adulthood, the enemy looks quite different.

What if the enemy is a former friend who betrayed you? Or a co-worker who seems determined to make you look bad? Or, worse yet, what if it’s someone in your family–a child, a sibling, or your spouse?

God’s command is the same: Love. No matter who the hostile person is, show them love.

Extending love in the face of persecution isn’t easy, and it’s definitely not natural. In fact, it’s impossible without God’s help. Only through the power of the Holy Spirit can you show kindness to people who are hateful toward you.

When someone spews toxic words in your face or does horrible things to you, remember one thing: That person is not the enemy. The evil behavior they’re demonstrating comes from somewhere else. Actually, from someone else–from Satan, the father of lies. He is your real enemy. Satan is completely opposed to you and to all Christ followers. His goal is to destroy your joy, hope, peace, and faith. . . and, eventually, your life.

But the good news is: God is on your side! The Lord is your Defender, and he fights for you! So you don’t have to take revenge when people hurt you. You don’t need to come up with some plan to make them pay for what they did. Instead, take your pain to the Lord in prayer, and let him comfort you. Trade your seething anger for his perfect peace.

God is patient with us. He knows sometimes it takes a few days for us to get to the point of surrender. But when we do, it’s a sweet time of letting go. You and I weren’t designed to carry the burdens of bitterness and resentment. Such emotions only cause more wounds and end up stunting spiritual growth.

Ask the Lord to reveal any unforgiveness in your heart. If he shows you something, confess it. Then, pray for anyone in your life you would classify as an enemy. Pray that person will know the love of God in a personal way.
