January 2017 Online Daniel Fast

When I was a young girl, I attended a small Baptist church in Butler, MO. And, when I say small, if we had 50 people in attendance, it was a good day. I loved that little church, though, because that’s where I met the Lord.

Every year or so, our pastor would invite an evangelist to hold a series of special services throughout the week. The purpose of the meetings was to “fire us up” as a congregation. We called it revival.

I enjoyed those revival services, and they usually did result in a temporary spiritual boost. But what I experienced wasn’t true revival.

True revival is a supernatural outpouring of the Holy Spirit that defies explanation. It involves a sudden, intense desire for the Lord and His Word. Believers and non-believers are awakened to the glory and power of God in a fresh way. Prayer becomes more urgent and focused. The lost are radically saved. Miracles abound. Lives are forever changed.

Frank Grenville Beardsley, author of A History of American Revivals, describes revival this way: “The Holy Spirit takes people to a spiritual depth they could not achieve on their own.”

Revival is initiated by God and completely dependent upon Him. But we do play a part in seeing revival take place. We can ask the Lord to stir our hearts and give us an unquenchable thirst for Him.

God wants to bring revival to our nations, our churches, and our families.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chron. 7:14).

Do you need a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit in your life?

I certainly do. I want a renewed passion for God’s Word. A greater fervency in prayer. A deeper burden for the unsaved. I want and need revival!

August 2016 Daniel Fast

One decision can totally change the course of your life. The person you marry. Where you to go to college. Which career you choose.

In August 2009, I chose to participate in the Daniel Fast for the first time. I stepped out in faith, believing God would help me and sustain me. I also anticipated the Lord would work powerfully as I trusted in Him.

And He did. In more ways than I can count.

Now, seven years later, I feel like I’m experiencing déjà vu. Again, our pastor has called for a church-wide Daniel Fast in preparation for the launch of a new campus. Again, he is asking the congregation to join him and the leadership team in prayer and fasting. Again, I’m expecting the Lord to work miracles as I draw near to Him.

But this unique opportunity to draw near to the Lord isn’t just for me. It’s not just limited to the people of James River Church. It’s also for you.

Is there a situation in your life that needs God’s intervention? Are you desperate to hear from the Lord on a particular issue?

Maybe you’re struggling with your job or facing financial ruin. Perhaps your marriage is falling apart or your child has turned away from the Lord. Or, you need God’s direction regarding an important decision. Whatever your situation, you can experience the presence of the Lord and know Him in a deeper way through the Daniel Fast.

January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast – FIGHT!

This past year I’ve struggled more with prayer than during any other time in my life. There have been days I haven’t wanted to pray. And I didn’t. There have also been times when I couldn’t pray because the hurt was so deep.

My heart has been heavy for family members who continue to reject the Lord. Friends whose marriages are falling apart. People who are facing life-threatening illnesses and addictions. And, of course, I’ve been broken over my own sin.

So much devastation. So much despair. And I’m weary.

But God has reminded me that I must not let up. Now isn’t the time to get lazy in prayer. Now is the time to FIGHT!

The struggles we face aren’t random or coincidental. Forces of good and evil are in conflict all around us. A powerful and present enemy, Satan, wants to steal, kill, and destroy God’s work in our lives and in the lives of our loved ones. But God doesn’t want us to shrink back in fear. He wants us to engage! But, in this battle, physical weapons like guns, knives, or hand grenades are useless. We must put on spiritual armor and fight through prayer!

The good news is that we’re not alone. God is fighting FOR us and WITH us. And, the best part is, He won’t be defeated.

“For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory” (Deut. 20:4).

This January you have the opportunity to fight the good fight with thousands of believers around the world. Make plans now to participate in the January 2016 Ultimate Daniel Fast. The three-week online fast will be held January 3-23, 2016, and the theme, of course, is, “FIGHT!”

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4).

“Spiritually Strong” – January 2015 Daniel Fast

Holiday parties and programs are in full swing, which means festive foods are also in abundance. Cookies, candy canes, pies, and all sorts of sweets seem to assault us at every turn. And, since such indulgences seem to be part of celebrating the Christmas season, we partake. In excess.

That’s precisely why when January 1^st rolls around, most people are suddenly highly motivated to make healthier choices. Weighed down by all the extra sugar and calories, their main desire for the New Year is to lose weight. Gyms all across the country are bursting at the seams with people working hard to get in better physical shape.

But, what if we put that much energy into improving our spiritual health?

One way I like to prepare for the year ahead is through prayer and fasting. For the past three years, I’ve led an online Daniel Fast in January. I’ve seen God do amazing things in my life and in the lives of thousands of others. This year the online Daniel Fast will be held January 4-24, 2015. Our theme is “Spiritually Strong,” based upon the verse, “Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power” (Eph 6:10). If you and I want to fulfill God’s plans for us in 2015, we must focus on building spiritual muscle!

January 2014 Online Daniel Fast

Do you know the Lord?

I’m not asking, “Do you go to church?” Or, “Do you believe in God?” Or even, “Have you been saved?” What I mean is, “Do you know the Lord personally?” Are you familiar with His character – his love, his mercy, and his grace?

The apostle Paul certainly was, and yet his greatest passion in life was to grow in his knowledge of the Lord and His ways. Paul said, “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead” (Philippians 3:10 NLT).

Is that your desire as well? It definitely is mine. That’s why every January I begin the New Year with prayer and fasting.

2014 is going to be a spectacular year. God offers a multitude of blessings to those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Don’t stay where you are with Jesus. Press on to know Him!

Day 21 – "Plant the Seed" January 2013 Daniel Fast

“The LORD will greatly bless his people. Wherever they plant seed, bountiful crops will spring up.” – Isaiah 32:20, NLT

Thank you to everyone who joined the “Plant the Seed” Online Daniel Fast, January 6th-26th. It has been a powerful time as we’ve sought the Lord through prayer and fasting.

As our theme verse promises, whenever we plant seeds of faith, we can expect bountiful crops to spring up. Some of us have already seen seeds poking through the ground! Others are still waiting expectantly for evidence of growth to appear.

Friends, the Lord is faithful to answer the prayers of His people. Even though this Daniel Fast journey has come to an end, our prayers must not. God is still working! Therefore, let’s continue to seek Him with great intensity and believe Him for miracles!

May Psalm 118:15 be true in our lives as we reflect on God’s goodness and faithfulness: “Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: “The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!” Today, let’s celebrate all God has done over the past three weeks and all that He’s going to do! Praise his holy Name!

Choose to Live – Easter Daniel Fast

It’s hard to believe March is well underway. Seems like only a few weeks ago, we were ringing in the New Year. I’m glad Spring is near, though. I’m ready for warmer weather!

In less than two weeks, I will begin another online Daniel Fast, this time for the 21 days leading up to Easter, March 18 to April 7. Although we’ll be praying for our own needs on this fast, the focus will be to intercede for the lost.

The theme is “Choose to Live,” based upon Deuteronomy 30:19-20, which says:

“I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life.”

Throughout the fast, we’ll explore the meaning of this verse and how it applies to our lives. We’ll also pray that family and friends who don’t yet know the Lord would choose life this Easter!

Today I was privileged to be interviewed live on a radio station in Georgia (89.3 FM, The Lighthouse). Vickie, the morning host, asked me about the upcoming January 2012 Daniel Fast and why I chose the theme “Seek and Find.”

When I asked the Lord to give me a theme for the fast, I immediately thought of the word seek. I quickly looked up all the verses on Bible Gateway that contained it. After reading through several passages, I came to Jeremiah 29:13, which says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” That’s it, I thought.

To seek after something or someone means to look intently and with purpose. It’s not a casual or halfhearted attempt. When you seek, you search. You look carefully. Thoroughly. Completely. You don’t stop looking until you find what you want.

I want to encourage you to begin 2012 by seeking the Lord in this way through the Daniel Fast. Join thousands of other believers as we fast and pray for the Lord’s will to be done in our lives and for His glory to be displayed in all the earth.
