Hi! They can be. Just check the ingredients to be sure everything included is Daniel Fast friendly (look for added sugar, chocolate, etc.).

Kristen, I also thought that perhaps if you would like I can provide you some of my recipes to add to your recipes if that could serve you given the great amount of love you have put into this website e.g. matcha smoothies, minestrone etc. I’m italian and love cooking and look to put love into my dishes. Let me know if that could help you. I don’t have many but a few that you might like.
Hi, Barbara! Thank you so much for your offer. I have no doubt that your recipes are delicious and would be well-received. However, I do not publish recipe submissions. I appreciate it, though.
Yes if they are plant based with no type of sugar or artificial sweeteners

Is millet acceptable? I love making a batch and eating it with a little butter.. You never hear anyone talk about how good it is… With 2 fried eggs for bkfast… YUM!
Great question. Grits are not usually whole grain but refined (unless they’re stone-ground grits). They’re made from white hominy, which is a form of corn that has had the hull and germ removed, which means it has been stripped of most of its nutrients. So, technically, instant grits are not Daniel Fast friendly. 🙁
Grits are usually refined. They’ve have had the hull and germ removed, which means the grits have been stripped of most nutrients. However, stone-ground grits are allowed. If the yellow grits are stone-ground, then they’re fine.
Hi, Miles! Date Honey is my original recipe, but I have seen a similar product in health food stores or online. You might try searching for date paste or date syrup. Just be sure to check the ingredients to make sure the product is Daniel Fast friendly if you don’t make your own.
Date honey changed our life. I use it in my roasted acorn squash, salad dressings, in oatmeal…it is so good I can use it when not on the fast. The hardest part of the fast for me is the first few days with no coffee. It’s not just a craving, but dealing with the low energy and headaches. I know this will pass very soon, but for the most part, the recipes and good things available to eat make it very enjoyable.
Hi, Michelle! Unfortunately, cream of wheat isn’t a part of the Daniel Fast because the grains in it aren’t whole grain (unless there is a whole grain/whole wheat option I’m not aware of).

Hi, Kyle! I don’t have a recipe for flapjacks or crumpets, but you might be able to find one online that’s Daniel Fast friendly. Sorry I wasn’t more help!

i have quick oats, instant oatmeal. Would that be acceptable
Hi, Tara! Yes, you could substitute a pear or a peach. I’d also add a little avocado (maybe 1-2 TB per serving) so you can get the creamy texture a banana provides.

How do you live without coffee for 21 days? How is anyone else supposed to live with me not having coffee for 21 days? (While funny, I’m actually serious about the questions!)
Hi, Melissa! Your question is a good one. The best answer is…through the power of the Holy Spirit! 🙂 I’d like others to chime in, but, for now, I’ll offer you some things to consider.
Many people try to wean themselves off coffee a few weeks before the fast begins. That’s really the best thing to do instead of going cold turkey. It can certainly be done that way, but it’s usually much more difficult. I suggest begin praying now and asking the Lord to help you. Going without coffee may seem impossible, but you can do it! Many coffee lovers have successfully completed the 21-day fast without having one cup. Here are three testimonies:
“I am very grateful for your priceless support during my first Daniel Fast. God changed my heart, my mind and even my physical body during this fast. He changed my heart by allowing me to draw near to Him; I gained strength and wisdom from His word. He changed my mind as it relates to the work and purpose that He has for me. My mind became very clear about what His will and purpose is for my life. He gave me wisdom and discernment regarding my inability to lose weight. During the fast, being in His supernatural power, I learned that I did not need sugar, coffee, alcohol or dairy to survive. ” – Helena, Jan 2019 Daniel Fast
“When I was weak, the Lord gave me strength to continue. I made a commitment with the Lord I finished strong. I am not even craving my old coffee.” – Brenda, Jan 2017 Daniel Fast
“I wasn’t sure I could do this, and I have to say at times it wasn’t easy being such a huge coffee drinker and meat eater. I prayed every day that God help get me through the next day. Each day was a little easier as I looked forward to reading more of my Bible and your emails.” – Keri, Jan 2015 Daniel Fast
I hope you’re encouraged to trust God to display his power in and through you. Remember, NOTHING is impossible with God. He is faithful to help you do what you think you cannot!
I had stopped drinking coffee for 1 year and it was not during the fast. I eventually started drinking it again. Doing the fast this time around for me has given me a new awareness of the type of person I long to be. The type of person God created me to be. My attitude is getting better…I feel better…I am sleeping better…I was eating foods that were making me carry a weight that was not only bad for my heart, but for my breathing as well. Coffee may be hard to give up, but just think about how good you will feel without it…I am ok with out it..you can do it too…
In unison with everyone else, thank you for your site! I found it yesterday while on a Zoom women’s bible study and some questions came up about the Daniel Fast. Very happy to use your recipes and the comments for my shopping list, especially about the grits. I love the recipes ideas. Excited to try them! Everything seems so easy. I do have a question about herbal tea. Is it allowed without sweeteners? Also, can we have water with fruit (cucumber, berries, oranges, etc.,)?
I haven’t had coffee in a couple of days now. Don’t miss it. I am feeling some slight headaches, but that is probably due to the caffeine withdrawals. – Blessings!
Hello! Thanks so much for you feedback about the website. I’m thankful you’ve found information that’s helpful! Yes, you can absolutely drink water that’s flavored with fruit. As far as the tea question, see #2 under “Beverages” on my FAQ page. May God bless you abundantly in 2022 as you seek him!
Yes, coconut flour is allowed. I wouldn’t recommend tapioca flour, simply because it contains very little protein, fiber or nutrients. Thanks for your question!
No, it’s not Daniel Fast friendly. Any wheat products must be whole grain. If you look at the ingredients label for Cream of Wheat, you see it contains WHEAT FARINA, SALT, PARTIALLY DEFATTED WHEAT GERM, GUAR GUM, NATURAL FLAVOR, BHT (TO PRESERVE FRESHNESS). A whole-grain product will say whole wheat, not just wheat farina. Thanks for your question!

Hi is Polaner Fruit Spread ok on a Daniel fast and what about Sugar Free Graham Crackers
An all-fruit spread (100% fruit and no added sugar) is fine. I doubt if the graham crackers would be acceptable, though. You’ll need to check the ingredients list to be sure. All grains on the Daniel Fast should be 100% whole grain.

Hi Kristen, is whole grain rice cakes ok? Would love to have them with peanut butter.

Hi, Amy! Yes, since millet is a whole-grain food, it’s completely fine to have on the fast. Thanks for your question!
Here are only sweet recipies. Any suggestion of salty breakfast?
Hi! You can have a Daniel Fast snack or main dish meal for breakfast instead of a “sweet recipe.” Anything goes, as long as it’s Daniel Fast friendly!
I noticed in all the food there is no bread, so is this cut out?
Hi, Kim! Unleavened bread is allowed (flatbread). See #1 under “Food” on my FAQs page for more information.
Can we use sugar or substitute of anything sweet..
Fruit is allowed, which can be used to add a natural sweetness. See #9, 10, and 11 under “Food” on my FAQs page for more information.
Can we use salt during the Daniel fast?
Yes, salt and pepper, as well as herbs and spices are allowed.
Are grits allowed?
Great question. Grits are not usually whole grain but refined (unless they’re stone-ground grits). They’re made from white hominy, which is a form of corn that has had the hull and germ removed, which means it has been stripped of most of its nutrients. So, technically, instant grits are not Daniel Fast friendly. 🙁
Are yellow grits allowed, (not the instant kind)
Grits are usually refined. They’ve have had the hull and germ removed, which means the grits have been stripped of most nutrients. However, stone-ground grits are allowed. If the yellow grits are stone-ground, then they’re fine.
Have you heard of hibiscus tacos?
I haven’t. What are they?
Can we eat toasted bread with this Fast (with peanut butter).
Hi, Belinda! Only unleavened bread (without yeast) is allowed. Peanut butter is fine. 🙂
What store carries date honey
Hi, Miles! Date Honey is my original recipe, but I have seen a similar product in health food stores or online. You might try searching for date paste or date syrup. Just be sure to check the ingredients to make sure the product is Daniel Fast friendly if you don’t make your own.
Date Honey is AMAZING and sooooo easy to make using pitted dates…
I agree! 🙂 Thanks for your feedback.

i have quick oats, instant oatmeal. Would that be acceptable
As long as the quick oats don’t have any ingredients that are restricted. Check the label to be sure.
Would Old fashion Oats be acceptable for breakfast?
Absolutely!
Hi would you use the normal table salt for daniel fasting, and also the potato wedges roasted in coconut oil
Yes, table salt is fine to use on the Daniel Fast. Also, yes, you can roasted potatoes in coconut oil.
Do you recommend a replacement for bananas in your smoothies? I’m allergic to bananas and all smooth recipes call for a banana.
“smoothie”
Hi, Tara! Yes, you could substitute a pear or a peach. I’d also add a little avocado (maybe 1-2 TB per serving) so you can get the creamy texture a banana provides.
