Chai Chia Pudding

December 4, 2017 By Kristen Feola

Chai Chia Pudding

Sometimes breakfast can be a challenge on the Daniel Fast, especially when you’re used to having yogurt or a bagel and cream cheese with your morning coffee. Here’s a breakfast recipe that requires minimal preparation, is naturally sweet and healthy, and tastes great. The chia seeds also provide a nice amount of protein, and the dates provide energy for your day.

Chai Chia Pudding

A creamy, tasty breakfast dish that gives you a nutritional boost to start your day. It's also perfect for a morning or afternoon snack.

Breakfast Recipes for the Daniel Fast

June 3, 2017 By Kristen Feola

Nutty Fruit Cereal

When I started my Ultimate Daniel Fast blog in August 2009, I began posting a variety of Daniel Fast friendly recipes–main dishes, snacks, vegetables, soups, and salads. But it wasn’t long before I figured out that the category most people needed help with on the fast is breakfast.

In the United States, a sugar-laden breakfast is often the norm. Just walk down the cereal aisle of any large grocery store and count the number of choices on the shelves, and you’ll see what I mean. We also like donuts, pancakes, muffins, toast, and bagels for our first meal of the day–all of which have little nutritional value. Sometimes we’ll pair these items with a protein, such as bacon, eggs, or ham. But, on the Daniel Fast, none of these foods is allowed.

So what can you eat for breakfast on the Daniel Fast?

You actually have a plethora of options. Following are a few of my favorite Daniel Fast breakfast recipes:

Overnight Oats
Apple-Cinnamon Hot Cereal
Baked Oatmeal
Fruit Pizza
Nutty Fruit Cereal
Peachy Keen Smoothie (go to “Daniel Fast Smoothies Recipes” for more ideas)

Be sure to visit my “Daniel Fast Breakfast Recipes” page for more ideas.

Remember, anything goes! As long as your food choices fall within the guidelines of the Daniel Fast Food List, you can eat whatever you like. For example, recipes that are listed under the following categories can also be breakfast dishes.

Daniel Fast Snacks and Appetizers
Daniel Fast Salads
Daniel Fast Soups
Daniel Fast Vegetables
Daniel Fast Main Dishes

If you’ve done the Daniel Fast, what are some of your favorite breakfast recipes?

Peachy Keen Smoothie

Peachy Keen Smoothie

Peachy Keen Smoothie

I like smoothies, especially green ones. When I made Peachy Keen for the first time, I loved it. But, I decided to get my husband's opinion before posting the recipe. Justin is not a big fan of weird-colored drinks. He's more of a Strawberry-Banana Smoothie kind of guy.
Justin's first comment was, "It doesn't taste like it looks." (In other words, I'm surprised it tastes so great because of the color! ) Then, after a few more gulps, he said, "This is excellent, babe!" If my husband approves, I know you will, too.

Baked Falafel with Lemon-Tahini Sauce

November 14, 2011 By Kristen Feola

Baked Falafel w/ Lemon-Tahini Sauce

Baked Falafel with Lemon-Tahini Sauce

Falafel (pronounced "fell-off-uhl") is a popular Middle Eastern dish made from spiced chickpeas and/or fava beans. It’s typically ground into a paste, shaped into a ball or disc, and then deep fried. However, since fried foods are off limits on the Daniel Fast, this recipe is a baked version.

Apple-Cinnamon Hot Cereal

October 31, 2011 By Kristen Feola

Apple-Cinnamon Hot Cereal

One of my favorite breakfast dishes used to be oatmeal. However, a few years ago, I had to give it up (among other foods) when I discovered my body is intolerant to gluten. However, this recipe is one I can enjoy without any negative side effects. Apple-Cinnamon Hot Cereal is a great oatmeal alternative for anyone with celiac disease or gluten intolerance. Plus, it's 100% Daniel Fast friendly.

Banana Milk

October 17, 2011 By Kristen Feola

Banana Milk

On the Daniel Fast, no animal products of any kind are allowed, including milk. For some of you, this is a true sacrifice. Well, don't despair. Today's recipe will encourage you. Banana Milk is a healthy replacement for cow's milk, made with bananas, water, and cinnamon. Plus, it's completely Daniel Fast friendly. Once you taste this sweet alternative to regular milk, you might never go back to the other stuff!

Chanana Chiller Smoothie

Chanana Chiller

Chanana Chiller

In August 2011, I held the Ultimate Daniel Fast "Name That Smoothie" Contest. The following recipe was posted, and I asked readers to help me name it. Entries were emailed from all around the world, with the first submission coming all the way from Ecuador! It was fun seeing everyone's ideas. The winning entry was from Polly of Kansas City, Missouri. Her smoothie name was "Chanana Chillerer," which received the most votes, so Polly received a copy of my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast .One taste of this refreshing smoothie, and you'll see why the name is perfect.

Blueberry Mango Smoothie

May 9, 2011 By Kristen Feola

Blueberry Mango Smoothie

I like to start my mornings with a smoothie. It's especially refreshing when the weather is hot or just after a workout. On a Daniel Fast, making a smoothie is a great way to enjoy the mouth-watering fruit God has given us. If you're brave, you can add vegetables as well to make a green smoothie. Now before you wrinkle up your nose at the thought, hear me out! Green smoothies are not as bad as you might think! They're actually quite good. The sweetness of the fruit is usually so overpowering that you can't taste most greens (unless they're especially pungent, such as with arugula). Blueberry Mango Smoothie tastes like a Hawaiian drink you'd sip on the beach. It's satisfying and filling, and your body will be energized by the vast array of nutrients it provides.
